Guest guest
I would be curious to know this too if anyone has seen results. I talked to cranial technolgies since my son has the DOC band and they said it couldn't hurt. I think I will proceed with it just to see if I can get better/quicker results. I will try anything as long as it doesn't hurt his progress Kim, AZ, 5 month old with plagio, DOC band > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC Band. > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the band? Guest guest
CST is not covered by our insurance either. Unfortunately our insurance changed as of the first of the year to CIGNA and they do not cover the DOC band either. We are going to continue with CST and the second band. It would be wonderful if CST alone rounds out our baby's head and helps the assymetry in his ears. However, we feel that the band can only help too and do not want to waste precious time. Plus we can always remove the band if we feel he's gotten the most correction. It's just too bad we can't get a pro-rated price on the band if we take it off early!!! I'll let you know how it goes. > > > > > > > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC > Band. > > > > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the > band? Guest guest
HI, although I've read good things on this site about CST, I would be skeptical about using it alone to treat plagio. It just sounds like too much of a miracle cure to me. In addition to shifting things around a bit there it a lot of growth required to resolve a misshapen head. I would definitely not rely exclusively on CST if I had the option of a helmet. -christine sydney 15 mo starband grad > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC Band. > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the band? Guest guest
We do not have the option of the band because my son and I are both allergic to the foam used to make the helmets. Therefore we have only CST to rely on for correcting his head as much as possible.NinaMommy to Max, 8 mo, brachy baby Re: Craniosacral Therapy > > > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC > Band. > > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the > band? Guest guest
Hi, I would definitely still do the band. My daughter (a former Docband wearer) has had CST five times now with only a slight change in headshape and facial asymmetry. BUT, she's 1.5 years old, so maybe CST would work better for a younger child. Just my two cents! Good luck! > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC Band. > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the band? Guest guest
Hi again, We have decided to still go with the second band. But we are also going to continue with CST for at least a few sessions. It can't hurt. I also am not sure that CST alone will correct his head shape. > > > > > > My son is 5 months old and was banded yesterday with the DOC > Band. > > > Has anyone used craniosacral therapy in conjuction with the > band? Guest guest
I did repositional therapy and it worked amazingly. Sofia is five months now and almost done. I'll be doing CST to get rid of the bumps on her head. Her tort was treated with PT and her plagio with repo, and now her lumps with CST. I've had a great experience without the band, although we started early which had something to do with it. Not sure how old yours is, but best of luck and keep an open mind and repositional in mind at all times. Use the bjorn instead of the stroller, etc. I only caught the end part of this web post, so I don't know if you're doing all this already, but read up on repositional if you're not too au fait with it, or email me and I'll tell you what we've been doing that's worked so well. Guest guest
Kenda, I'm going to try this out too.. One of my friends went to an osteopath and had a craniosacral treatment for her hips which had been causing her alot of pain for months. The osteopath did an adjustment on her JAW and she has had no further hip pain. It was corrected in ONE session. I am quite impressed by this story. She had never been to an osteopath before and went after exhausting other medical options. I am so jittery and anxious all the time! It gets to the point of feeling like I am going to pass out. I know this feeling of being overstimulated could be adrenal related too. Since I fell and gave myself a concussion, I haven't been able to do yoga because it is now making me dizzy. I use yoga to relax, but can't just now.. Anyways, thanks for the input! Katy:) Kenda Skaggs <lovesgoldens@...> wrote: Hi Katy,I have been preaching about craniosacral therapy for years. Guest guest
Yep, we started at just about that time and we did about 6 or 7 sessions lasting about 15 minutes each. The PT did it at our adjustments for the Docband. My daughter loved it and was so soothed. Who knows if it actually helped, but I would do it again because we have had good results with the band! > > Hello Everyone, > > My son, , has been in his DOC band for 4 weeks now for moderate plagio and I would like to start craniosacral therapy to increase our chances of improving his head shape. The physical therapist will not be able to see him for another two weeks, at which time he will be 5 and a half months old. Has anyone else started this type of therapy at this age with good results? If so, how often and for how long did you attend therapy in conjunction with the helmet. > > Thanks for your advice and support! > > Beth and (5 months old) > > > > ______________________________________________________________________ ______________ > Need a vacation? Guest guest
Hi , We take to an Osteopath that does Cranial Sacral work. She is one of 700 doctors in the country that specializes in OMM (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine) and works with many babies and kids. She has helped so much in just 3 visits so far. After each of the last 2 visits we have noticed him doing something better than he used to or even something he never did before. Even my husband loves her and swears s head looks better after each visit. She is wonderful! I noticed you are in Wisconsin, so if you are interested in her name and number, she is in Illinois, but well worth the trip if you are at all close to Illinois. She is in McHenry, IL. There are lots of good articles on Cranial Sacral work and Plagio or Tort. If you just do a search online, also try searching with OMM and Plagio in the same search field and see what comes up! Its definately worth looking into. Also, some Chiropractors do this work also. :-) **************Start the year off right. Guest guest
Hi , We just had our free consult at Cranial Tech yesterday...not sure if we are going to do it or not, or if our insurance will cover it either! The Osteopath just started accepting insurance (BCBS), not sure what other ones she is taking.. I have heard about massage therapists who do Cranial Sacral, and I think PT's who do it too, but from my understanding, and I could be wrong.. the work done by an Osteopath is much more involved. They go to school an additional 4 years for the Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine specialty, which is why very few do it (like 700 in the whole country). I'm sure you could find out more about it on the web... but again, I am pretty sure the work that she does is more extensive/intensive(not sure the right word)... If you would like her name/number, let me know... it may be worth a call at least. She can explain what she does a lot better than I can... but I'm really glad our son is seeing her. She has explained to us what is going on in our sons body (tort, plagio, unwinding...etc..) with such knowledge and she really seems to be helping him. :-) **************Start the year off right. Our practicioner is in Park Ridge, IL. <jssckrnz@...> wrote: Thanks so much for the info, we only live about an hour from McHenry. Did your insurance cover the treatments...or how much did each session cost. I still don't know if her band is covered by our insurance and we are being fitted on Monday! The OT I work with has a friend who treats for $85 and hour and will come to our house.>> Hi again... here is a link to some good articles, especially the ones further > down the page about treatment of babies..> > HREF="http://216.109.125.130/search/cache?ei=UTF-8 & p=slight+torticollis+and+omm & fr=yfp-t-501 & u=marklevine.ca/page4.html & w=slight+torticollis+omm & d=a0PZBL> XiQFH2 & icp=1 & .intl=us">Click here: Articles > >

**************
Start the year off right. Guest guest
My sons have had a lot of craniosacral therapy and our insurance actually pays 100% of it. We send in the receipt ourselves and they reimburse us. We have really good insurance, but you could at least try finding out what the code would be on the receipt and call your insurance to see what they might cover. They have a prescription from a doctor to receive it. Our therapist codes it as manual therapy 97140. The condition for one is verbal apraxia and the other is dysphagia and reflux. She got that off of the prescription from the doctor. Good luck! ________________________________________________________________________________\ ____ Never miss a thing. Guest guest
Hello, I am new to this group. My son was born a little over two years ago with ARPKD and received a kidney/liver transplant this past Septmeber. Because he has spent SO MUCH time in the hospital and on his back (he is developmentally behind and because of all of his kidney/liver issues and being on dialysis, he never spent much time on his belly and still does not crawl) he has a very flat head. I talked to the neurologist a few months ago and was told that he was too old for the helmet and there wasn't much that could be done for him at this point. Recently, I asked our PT about craniosacral therapy. She seems like one of the ones who thinks it works but isn't super convinced it will work. Anyway, I need to hear things a million times before I understand these things. She has explained to me the way this therapy works, but I still don't quite get it. Can someone explain to me how this type of therapy can actually change the shape of his skull even though he is 2 years old. Thanks so much!! Guest guest
Hi , I'm new to the group too so can't comment on how this type of therapy will help a flat head, however I can point you to a site that feels craniosacral therapy in general is dubious: http://www.quackwatch.com/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/cranial.html The bottom of the article has a lot of references to other sources. I have been recommended this therapy by friends and they can never tell me exactly what they are trying to treat so I remain skeptical myself. Perhaps some others in the group can give you a more evidence-based story about how it has helped them. Dena
Guest guest
You both might be interested in checking out the Older plagio message board as well: OlderPlag/ They talk about a lot of alternative treatments for plagio in the older child (after the window for a band has passed) and seem to know a lot about CST and other chiropractic specialties that can help. It might be worth checking out, a lot of them have first-hand experience with it. Good luck!
