Guest guest
hi all, i realize this is an old message but i just came back from an extended leave due to kidney and financial issues. uti's are very common esp in our loved ones, oftern becuse they touch and play there alot, the germs on the hands gets into the private areas and can cause severe infections. bladder infections can lead to serious complicaions with the kidney, if one is prone to kidney stones, they can be forme due to infections, these can get trapped in the uretha trying to come out and become an urgent surigical issues. also untreated kidney infections can lead to weakening of the kidneys and improper drainage, meaning the kidneys hold toomuch water *hydronephrosis or dehydration by passing too much liquid. if you suspect a uti, it should be treated right away so as not to cause your loved one any more distress. i hope this helps, and again i am sorry that it took me so long to answer, hugs, sharon a-m pensaola, florida Subject: Re: Can a UTI be fatal? To: LBDcaregivers Date: Wednesday, April 9, 2008, 10:40 AM Found this: Untreated UTIs can lead to potentially life-threatening complications, such as acute or chronic pyelonephritis, which could permanently damage your kidneys. Young children and older adults are at the greatest risk of kidney damage due to UTIs because their symptoms are often overlooked or mistaken for other conditions. Women who have UTIs while pregnant may also have an increased risk of delivering low birth weight or premature infants. Untreated UTIs can spread to the blood and cause a serious infection that can be fatal. http://www.hmc. psu.edu/healthin fo/uz/uti. htm > > Can a UTI be a cause of death? > > I know that we always treat for one, and Hospice does, as well, but if > a LO is in a very weakened state, could the UTI bring a high fever and > death? > > Not a current concern, just a question. > > Carol >
