Guest guest
, Our urologists looked at our daughter's urine using a microscope. He even let us at it. I'll never forget the shape of the crystals. After, 6 months using cranberry capsules they disappeared. Her urine was clear. The crystals looked like long shards of glass. He showed me the different shapes of different crystals that can found in the urine. We use Swanson brand Cran-Max 500mg every morning and night. He told us originally that we should ONLY use one pint of pure cranberry juice daily for life. I could only find pure cranberry juice on the internet. We tried this for a couple of weeks but she said it burned her throat. The urologist said that her preferred the pint (liquid) so she could have more volume run through her kidneys. But, the capsules have been great. I noticed that grape juice or grapes in general REALLY stirred up the frequent urinating as well as spaghetti sauce. And, of course, chelation. We only had to do the DDAVP for a little while. I think when the urologist told me that Neathery would need the cranberry for life - it impressed me that this was something I couldn't just start and stop. We've been religious with the cranberry capsules twice daily for over a year with fantastic results. Hope this helps, Shari At a loss on urinary symtpoms Listmates, I am at a loss on urinary symptoms our son is exhibiting. We have seen the following symptoms about three times in the last few years: groin pain (as seen by grabbing at the crotch); frequent and excessive urination; and small amounts of pee each time. The first two times, the symptoms went away after a while (one time after reducing oxalates). But the oxalic acid levels went into normal range; we have not changed the diet; and now we are seeing the symptoms again. It's very puzzling to come out of nowhere. we just finished a round of Flagyl/Diflucan and I read where Flagyl has a possible side effect of frequent urination, but we have been off of it for over a week now and we still see the symptoms. I typed the symptoms into Mayoclinic.com and got the following list of causes for the above symptoms: kidney infection, cystitis, kidney stones, diabetes, UTI, and vesicoureteral reflux. I'm not sure what to think. I've been to the doctor before on this and nothing really turned up. Has anyone else seen these symptoms? Any ideas on what to pursue here? Any help is appreciated. I hate to see the pain symptom especially and would really like to pinpoint the problem once and for all. L
Guest guest
Shari, Thank you for the reply. We were on DDAVP for about a year. It was great for preventing bed wetting. Then we started putting underwear on him at night and then during the day and he eventually became potty trained. So then we went to every other day on the DDAVP and then stopped it and KOW he has been off of DDAVP for about a yr. As a side note, I remember a few parents saying that when the oxalate issues popped up and frequent urination hit, that chelation added to the problem as it adds more stress to the kidneys. This makes sense to me, so maybe chelation should be deferred until after an oxalate dump clears. - Can you tell me what kind of test was ordered that found calcium phosphate crystals (that's interesting)? - Also, can you tell me what brand of cranberry juice capsules you use? Or maybe we don't need them unless he specifically has the calcium phosphate crystals? Thanks again, L From: csb-autism-rx [mailto:csb-autism-rx ] On Behalf Of Dwayne & Shari Sent: Thursday, January 10, 2008 10:54 AMSubject: Re: At a loss on urinary symtpoms , Our daughter did the same thing. Urologist found calcium phosphate crystals in her urine- not calcium oxalate. Owens explained why - and I can't remember all of it but it is an oxalate issue. Our urologist prescribed DDAVP which was wonderful and cranberry juice. We opted for pure cranberry capsules 500mg. twice daily and she's completely clear of calcium phosphate crystals. The urologists said that she will probably always need cranberry for the rest of her life. It worked. She was going to the bathroom up to 50 and 60 times a day. We stopped tomatoes and high oxalate foods but the cranberry capsules and DDAVP did the trick. DDAVP stopped the frequent urination and cranberry capsules cleared the calcium phosphate crystals. Holding the crotch and having pain in the groin area is an oxalate issue. I never noticed this in our daughter until we started chelation.
