Guest guest
Dr. McCandless, Thank you so much for all of the information about nutritional supplementation, it is invaluable!! I have a question about the pear juice & pear puree/sauce. I use a bottled organic pear juice (and sometimes pear sauce/puree) to give supplements to my son. I remember hearing something about the pears – that pears contain an enzyme that the yeast do not like. The pear juice and the pear sauce is pasteurized which I believe is a process that involves high heat. As I understand it, enzymes can be killed when heated. If this is all true, wouldn’t the heat kill the enzymes that make the pear unattractive to the yeast? I have another question about zinc. My 3.5 year old son is about to begin chelation with DMSA suppositories. He is about 33 pounds and I have been giving him 66mg of Zinc Picolinate because it is supposed to be the most absorbable. In the CSB book and in your recent email, you mention you give Zinc Monomethionine “at certain times and for certain children”. We are already exceeding the 1mg/lb +20mg of zinc you mention in the book for chelation. But it seems to help with my son’s appetite and willingness to try new foods. I also just got a zinc sulfate transdermal cream - 20mg of zinc per gram/application. Is there some proportion of Zinc Picolinate to Zinc Monomethionine. (to zinc sulfate cream?) that you would recommend? We also have my son on 1000mg (500mg 2x/day) of L-Glutamine to heal the gut. I recently heard about NAG which is supposed to be more powerful than L-Glutamine? My last question is about Calcium & Magnesium. Certain forms of Calcium were constipating my son, so we tried Calcium & Magnesium citrate on ’s recommendation. It has been working so far. I have been putting both the Calcium (700mg) & the Magesium (630mg) powders in hot buckwheat cereal every morning. I know that it would be better to spread it out over the course of the day, but I don’t really have any other food to hide it in that he will eat, since it is a lot of powder. I am planning on trying some Calcium chewables that I can give him later in the day to spread it out some. Is it ok to put Cal & Mag in something hot? I really appreciate all of your time and help! Many Thanks & Blessings, To: csb-autism-rx@...: JMcCandless@...: Thu, 3 Jan 2008 17:26:49 -0800Subject: Re: Re: vitamin/supplements dosing (and mixing and timings!)-DR. JM Soft food is fine as says; however, I would notuse apple sauce as yeast love apples and grapes, so Iask parents not to use apple or grape products fortheir children (or anything with refined sugar in it).Pears have something in them that yeast does notlike, so I suggest you use pear sauce or diluted pearjuice to give nutrients if possible.
