Guest guest
, We didn't order a test. The urologist looked at her urine through a microscope and the saw the crystals. He identified them as crystal calcium phosphate. Her urine was filled with them. I saw it, too. After 6 months on the cranberry capsules her urine was SPOTLESS. She was tested for UTI twice during the time before we took her to the urologist. Both tests came back negative so the pediatrician didn't know what to do. They thought she was nervous and that's why she started going to the bathroom - which I told them was not true. Apparently the pediatrician's office doesn't see the crystals when they check for infection. When the urologist checked her urine it was full of calcium phosphate crystals which look jagged and painful under a microscope. She swallows the capsules. The fantastic results are in the proof that she no longer has the crystals in her urine nor the symptoms. The urologist also said that getting her urine more acidic will help with any yeast issues. I make sure to supplement her with calcium and magnesium every day because I believe the cranberry depletes the calcium. You should find only pure cranberry juice which tastes terrible. The juice at the store is usually made from grape juice which isn't good for this problem. Also, our daughter is corn free so we couldn't use a juice cocktail( corn syrup). The capsules worked best for us. I hope this helps. I always keep DDAVP on hand now in case of a flare up. This will - now - be a lifelong battle. This only started after chelation but we have seen such positive results with chelation - we still chelate on and off. Shari At a loss on urinary symtpoms Listmates, I am at a loss on urinary symptoms our son is exhibiting. We have seen the following symptoms about three times in the last few years: groin pain (as seen by grabbing at the crotch); frequent and excessive urination; and small amounts of pee each time. The first two times, the symptoms went away after a while (one time after reducing oxalates). But the oxalic acid levels went into normal range; we have not changed the diet; and now we are seeing the symptoms again. It's very puzzling to come out of nowhere. we just finished a round of Flagyl/Diflucan and I read where Flagyl has a possible side effect of frequent urination, but we have been off of it for over a week now and we still see the symptoms. I typed the symptoms into Mayoclinic.com and got the following list of causes for the above symptoms: kidney infection, cystitis, kidney stones, diabetes, UTI, and vesicoureteral reflux. I'm not sure what to think. I've been to the doctor before on this and nothing really turned up. Has anyone else seen these symptoms? Any ideas on what to pursue here? Any help is appreciated. I hate to see the pain symptom especially and would really like to pinpoint the problem once and for all. L
Guest guest
Shari, Can you tell me what kind of test you ordered to check for crystals? We are checking for the infections, but I do not see anything on the Rx about checking for stones/crystals. I am trying to reach the doc, but i don't want to get the test only to find out they did not check for crystals. Also, does your daughter swallow the capsules or do you open them and put them in something? And when you say fantastic results, do you just mean no more urinary symptoms or are there other benefits from the cranberry juice. Sorry for all the questions, but we are seeing heightened symptoms and I want to get smart fast on this issue. L Re: At a loss on urinary symtpoms - Shari , Our urologists looked at our daughter's urine using a microscope. He even let us at it. I'll never forget the shape of the crystals. After, 6 months using cranberry capsules they disappeared. Her urine was clear. The crystals looked like long shards of glass. He showed me the different shapes of different crystals that can found in the urine. We use Swanson brand Cran-Max 500mg every morning and night. He told us originally that we should ONLY use one pint of pure cranberry juice daily for life. I could only find pure cranberry juice on the internet. We tried this for a couple of weeks but she said it burned her throat. The urologist said that her preferred the pint (liquid) so she could have more volume run through her kidneys. But, the capsules have been great. I noticed that grape juice or grapes in general REALLY stirred up the frequent urinating as well as spaghetti sauce. And, of course, chelation. We only had to do the DDAVP for a little while. I think when the urologist told me that Neathery would need the cranberry for life - it impressed me that this was something I couldn't just start and stop. We've been religious with the cranberry capsules twice daily for over a year with fantastic results. Guest guest
Shari, Thanks. I know Knudsen's has an organic pure cranberry juice which I'm sure is bitter, but then again, our boys drink pomegranite and it is also bitter. They do not swallow pills so we will try the juice. Thanks again for the info. Maybe I'll just go get a microscope from work and take a look myself. L Re: urinary symtpoms - Shari , We didn't order a test.
