Leena,

Children's bones are not done growing by age 8. You didn't say what the surgery

would entail, but I would definitely get a 2nd opinion. Soft tissue surgeries

done in early childhood can make a difference in quality of life in the future.

However, there is no surgery that will take away CMT or the progression of it.

That is determined by each individual's genetic code.

Leena,

The AFOs help keep the bones straight. When my kids were young I was

wondering the same about surgeries. So far so good with two of them. My older

son did have surgery but that was after a car accident had immobilized him for a

long time and he was out of his AFOs. So please don't worry about any surgeries

yet. You might be able to avoid it.
