Moldy buildings and city inspectors

The following message was posted on an internet forum that is totally unrelated

to mold illness. I am not sure if the author of the post would give me the

persmission to post here, but what the heck.

----------------------------------------------------

What a crazy time its been the last two weeks. First a city inspector came to

visit the building I was living in. A week later with no word coming from the

property managers, the city posts a condemed notice for mold and an order to

vacate immediately unfit for human habitation. The empty units had been molding

away in the walls and overhead and I guess it was creeping in to everywhere in

two buildings. Basically we were notified to move it or lose it cause after 3

days they are locking it down and you can't re-enter. Long story short, lawsuit

pending with property managers and owner, probably a class action suit. They

have apparently known of the situation for years and done nothing but bleach

drywall and paint over it. I had to move everything into storage, stay in a

motel for a few days with the family, and then move out of storage into a new

place the next week. So now I was ready to shoot someone but the good news is

after only a few nights sleeping in the new place on the lake, I feel great and

my chronic cough and waking up at night has gone away. Got my fishing spot all

picked out so I will be sitting out there late nights.

What I find interesting about this is that " the city inspector " came to visit

the building and a week later " the city " posts a condemned notice for mold and

an order to vacate immediately, unfit for human habitation.

Is this type of reaction common in the USA? It looks as if they really care

after all. Also, how did they know there was mold growing in that building?

I am trying to contact the authorities in my city about some moldy buildings,

but have no idea who to turn to...
