Thimerosal in OTC drugs

I have a terrible cold I can just barely function. I decided to go

to the pharmacy a couple days ago to get something to allow me to

breath again. I never really used nasal sprays before but it's just

been so bad that I felt like I had to do *something*. I have 2 kids,

a husband that works constantly and one with asd so I need to be able

to function better. I've been using it for about 2 days now, 2x a

day. It worked wonders along with motrin. I decided to look up the

active ingredient online because I wanted to know why it shouldn't be

used more than 2x a day (I'm extremely congested!) and why it had

such a profound warning that I had never seen before on medication to

*only* use as directed. The warning is: " Failure to follow these

warning can result in serious consequences. " In big bold letters on

the top of the instructions. I looked up the ingredient and while it

had a mile long list of possible problems, what surprised me the most

is that I found the information for it on Dristans Long Lasting Nasal

Mist (I bought Vicks Sinex) information and it contains thimerosal!

I subsequently went back and did a search on Vicks Sinex because I

was so freaked out and it doesn't seem to contain thimerosal but

still it got me thinking... Is there thimerosal still in OTC drugs?

I thought that I read that it was removed but now I'm questioning

that... I don't know if it was the Rx version of Dristan or OTC that

contained thimerosal. I went back and looked up one that I was

pretty sure was OTC and it did not list thimerosal as an ingredient.

Needless to say, I'm no longer using the nasal spray.
