Each state of the USA has different laws pertaining what you can spray at another person. You can be liable for injuries, even if you were under attack. I've heard about two court cases where hair spray resulted in the loss of the eye. In one, the hair sprayer lost, even though she had been attacked, and was bleeding. What she was told was she could sue her attacker for the financial losses of his civil lawsuit as the loss resulted directly from his physical attack. Geesh! Justice delayed is not justice, imo. If you must harm someone, on your property, be sure they remain on your property (do not let them crawl away), and as they remain dangerous to you, continue to do them in. However, you can be liable if you later say the wrong thing, or it's obvious you were attacking their back. Learn the right thing to say to the first responding police, and you will be fine. Something like, he would not stop trying to hurt me. And certainly say, many times, " I was fearful for my life. " Cops know that one. My recommendation is to exaggerate, and perhaps even bend the truth. After all, the person you lie about was going to " kill " you. Cops know about this, too. Why? They do it themselves. If it's good for cop to do, then who are you to not follow their lead? The general rule cops follow is to be the only left standing to tell 'the' story. Protecting yourself in this USA country is messed up now. It's quite complex in the USA. Other countries it is not. If you poke their eyeball out, then it's okay. But if you spray them, and later the doctor has to remove the eyeball to save the attacker's life, then it's not okay. Geesh. Mace is not allowed in California, not even 10% mace and 90% pepper. Even carrying that mixture is illegal, with the same punishment level as actually using it. Read the label, call the local police front desk, and get brand name recommendations, to be sure what you buy is legal in your state. And the law changes.
