Guest guest
Hi Marci, I'm so sorry to hear about your situation. You are so young to be dealing with this. I can't begin to imagine how difficult it must be for you right now. When my grandmother broke her hip a few years ago, I researched options for her and found that there are Residential Care Homes in many areas. These private homes care for up to 6 adults at a time. Usually there are two caregivers who live there 24/7. They provide a nice, family-like environment for the residents and they care for them completely. There are also Assisted Living Homes that care for adults who need help with daily activities of living but don't actually need skilled nursing care. There are also individuals who will come live in your home and care for you. To explore what options might be available to you, some resources include: - Your local senior center - Your County's senior services office - State resources http://www.arkansas.gov/dhs/homepage.html - www.aplaceformom.com - www.eldercarelink.com - www.care-link.org (Arkansas organization) - AARP When I was researching places for my grandmother, I worked with the people at A Place for Mom and they were very helpful. You just tell them what your needs are and your income situation and they will help you find options in your area. Their number is 1-877-MOM-DAD9 (1-877-666-3239). I also utilized the county resources. In my area, the social workers regularly review all of the Residential Care Homes, so when I found something that I liked, I called the County to see if they what their reports/files shows on that location. Your local County resources may be a good place to start. It takes a lot of phone calls to find a solution. Do you have a friend or family member who can help you make some calls? If there's something specific we can help you find, you can post a request here or email me privately and I'll do my best to help you. Guest guest
dear marcy, i can feel you sadness and frustration of having to go into a nursing home at 49. way to young. i have cmt and i can walk on my own but i get really tired when i do too much and feel like i am having a heart attack. and when i read you post i statred to cry. my mom had to go into a nursing home and fought like hell not to go but i no longer could take care of her. it's been 10 years and i still feel the guilt. maybe call cmt groups and ask an administrator if there is a way for you to still or get home health care. we all want our dignatiy. i wish you well and hope you can get the help you need. if i can find out more info for you i will e-mail it. where do you live. love and light francine {earthnana} From: me you <gotyourrealmonkey2000@...> Subject: i saw the dr today Date: Thursday, June 4, 2009, 10:18 AM hi all, the dr said i have 3 more stoke so i have 5 stoke in the last 6 month and my CMT is got so bad now she is wanting me to go in a nurseing home she think i need 24 hours nursing now. i can not get up at all i have to be pick up someone have to dress and feed me now. i dont know what to do i dont want to go in a nursing home i am only 49 what should i do thank u marci in ark
Guest guest
Marci, Maybe after you are there for a while getting good care and nutrition you will be better and be able to live without round the clock care. For now if its the only safe helpful place for you then you should consider it. Unless you have someone to help you at home?

Guest guest
Marci, You might qualify for certain types of Home Health Care. Take this info to your doc. because staying at home is much healthier than an institution or rehab facility. Physical therapy and Occupational Therapy can also come to your home, the OT would possibly be able to teach you new ways of managing, of doing things, and this may give you more freedom. http://www.carepathways.com/HC-state-AR.cfm http://www.vnaarkansas.org/ Call these places, or ask your doctor to help with obtaining a case worker and go from there. Perhaps your doctor doesn't have the complete picture. Gretchen
Guest guest
Marci, I know you don't want to go. And I can imagine your feelings about this, although I am not the one with CMT (my son is) I am a breast cancer survivor. I still am scared to say that too loudly (might jinx it). I suddenly was, instead of the caregiver, the one having to be cared for. I think being unable to care for one's self is the highest form of humility. I am so sorry for you and what you are facing. I am praying for you. Since you are given little choice, smile. Maybe it will not be nearly as bad as you think it is! Chemo was the monster in the closet for me, but I beat him! Lost my hair...but I BEAT HIM! When you are feeling really blue...the best thing you can do for yourself is look in the mirror and give yourself the biggest toothiest smile you have ever seen! It really works! If you can't get to a mirror have someone bring one to you! rom: me you Sent: Thursday, June 04, 2009 1:18 PM Subject: i saw the dr today hi all, the dr said i have 3 more stoke so i have 5 stoke in the last 6 month and my CMT is got so bad now she is wanting me to go in a nurseing home she think i need 24 hours nursing now. i can not get up at all i have to be pick up someone have to dress and feed me now. i dont know what to do i dont want to go in a nursing home i am only 49 what should i do thank u marci in ark
