Guest guest
Hi Demian, Welcome to the group, I am sure you will find lots of useful information here. I was really touched reading your introduction as I have a son and daughter around your age who also have CMT. As a mother it is hard to watch your son struggle with the challenges you mentioned, especially when I know he inherited this challenge from me. Both my children do not like to discuss their CMT but they both face difficulties with walking. On the subject of the walkaide; I did go for an assessment for this device but unfortunately my muscle loss and foot drop were too advanced. As you mentioned it is also very expensive but if you have relatively low muscle loss it is worth going to find out if it may help. I'm happy to hear that your mobility has improved with AFOs, can you please tell me which kind you use? You have wonderful attitude which I know will be a huge blessing in your life. Warmest wishes,
Guest guest
I went and was tested for them but since I have drop foot on both sides, they weren't a good fit for me. Not to mention they are about $6,000. (for me, that would have been $12,000). Insurance covers them only for head trauma injuries, MS and stroke victims. At least that's what Scope Orthotics told me. The idea is great because the device goes above the knee and shoes are not a factor. If I had seen a great improvement I would have bit the bullet and probably ordered them but I didn't see much difference in the month I could try them out.
