Guest guest
This is from the SLG from Dr. Shy on the Swine Flu. From Dr. Shy: To the best of my knowledge, there is not a reason for a CMT patient to not be vaccinated against the swine flu or other types. There is no reason to think that CMT patients are more likely than other patients to have an allergic reaction to the vaccine. There are reasons that particularly patients with significant respiratory problems may be more severely affected by the flu than others. Hope this helps. In a more recent email, he wrote: No the vaccine will not worsen their CMT. Often patients are worried about a repeat of cases of Guillain Barre, which is a reaction to vaccines or other processes that results in sometimes severe peripheral neuropathies. There is no evidence that this is more likely to occur in CMT than non-CMT patients and is likely to be a rare occurrence. To me there is a greater risk of trouble from the swine flu in compromised CMT patients.
