Guest guest
Walkaide is not for people with CMT because of adverse sensory deprivation, skin irritations, burning. Check our Archived posts on this.
Guest guest
I'm a bit confused, and would like some clarification. This device is intended for people who already have sensory deprivation, and those of us with CMT already have sensory deprivation, so how could we suffer 'adverse' sensory deprivation? I'm just curious if anyone with CMT has actually tried this device, and if so, how do the pros/cons stack up? > > Walkaide is not for people with CMT because of adverse sensory deprivation, skin irritations, burning. Guest guest
One professional let me try this in 2007, in Pasadena, CA. My leg muscles didn't respond. That is, the muscles stimulated are not the muscles weakened/atrophy by CMT. I am not sure whether this is only my own problems or the same problems for all CMT people. Guest guest
Maura, My Orthotist said is would not work for CMTers because it need one normal leg. It won't work when both legs have foot drop. I did try it anyway and it was very painful. Lyn from S. California
Guest guest
Lyn, What was painful? Was it like an electric shock? Guest guest
Maura, Yes it was electrical current that felt like an electric shock. It was the shock that would cause the leg to take a step. Even if the device could work me, it was much to painful for me to use. I told that orthotist, " I'm staying with the leg braces.
