I don't understand why a Dr. would tell anyone, let alone a young girl, that she

will be in a wheelchair in 12 years. It is no secret that our body tends to live

up to it's expecations. I was told the same thing many years ago and am just now

at 46 looking into braces and don't expect a chair to be in my future at

anytime. I hope to see a cure instead!

If Dr's are not educated about CMT they should not be giving out this prognosis.

Meagan Berry is a very strong and " remarkable " young girl and should not have to

think about her life being limited and thinking she is going to be restricted at

a certain age. Progression and management is different in each of us. I hope we

can change this through the education of the medical community. Kudos to

for such a positive outlook!

Amen to that ! When I was 27 A neuro at UCLA told me I'd be in a

wheelchair by the time I was 30. I thought he was crazy and told him to go F

himself. My 30th birthday came and went. Now, 26 years later, I'm still on my

feet, active, productive, CMT has never stopped me from doing anything I've ever

wanted to do.

I thought 's story was so positive, I hope our younger members/family

members find strength and hope there too.

and others:

Doctors should never say " will be in a wheel chair in so many years " for any

disorder. Wheelchair use should be stated as a warning only.
