Guest guest
Welcome. It is good to have you as a part of our group. I think the others have pretty well summed up what I would have said. This me adding my amen and a welcome. I would like to expound upon the importance of finding support for yourself. My husband and two of our five boys are on the spectrum. I allowed myself to be swallowed alive by all the trauma and drama for years. It has only been since coming to this group that I have realized the importance of taking care of myself as well. The end result has been a happier marriage and happier kids. If you live your life only trying to keep the peace as I did you will find yourself completely swallowed up and drained completely emotionally. This has been probably the biggest lesson I have learned. Welcome again. I look forward to more posts from you. e By the way-Both my husband and I post to this site using the same email. He is Usarian and I am e. It can be a little confusing. From: Sheryl Hare Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 2:59 AM To: aspires-relationships@ya hoogroups.com Subject: New member Hi, my name is Sheryl. I am a 51 year old primary teacher who has been married to Ian for the past 20 months. I think that Ian has Aspergers which is affecting our relationship. I need advice for supporting Ian and for myself on how to cope with this. I love him very much but his attitude towards me is at times unbearable. Guest guest
Hello Sheryl, I'm Elaine 47, and have been with Gilroy 44 for 21 years. Our son Adam 14 is diagnosed Aspergers but Gilroy isn't, he is AS however and the problems we face as a married couple because of the NT/AS differences are as you described 'at times unbearable'. I am finding i have to use much more energy than him in trying to keep our relationship in a state i deem as acceptable, he just constantly denies any problems and says he doesn't know what i am talking about. I do try to solve any episodes myself, but any i can't cope with i ask the good people in this group for help, the advice i get is helps immensely, i have no doubt in my mind we would still be in the very dark place we were if i didn't find this group when i did, we may not even still be together! Sheryl your here now, i'm not saying all your problems will be solved but believe me the help and advice you will get is second to none.
