Guest guest
After years of heated debates with a ND on another board. This person just recently came to understand my point of view and we have become quite close. I think it was finally getting her to sympathize with how " sick " the kids are. She admitted that she never had the physical symptoms and agreed that if she had she would have wanted her parents to help her as well. I explained that I didn't seek treatment to " change " who my son was, I sought treatment to relieve him of the flaming red skin rashes he was having and the painful bowel movements where he would scream on the toilet. I told her what kind of parent would I be if I sat back and did nothing while he was in pain? She now understands and even supported me going to the rally. I also understand her a little better as she helped me understand how an autistic feels when that they hear about people trying to cure autism, calling it a devastating diagnosis for a child. She said that she does just fine as do many autistics. And I have some sympathy for her feelings, because I think about how my son might feel someday if people are still calling autism a devastating diagnosis and parents are desperate to " fix " their kids. > > > > > > Dear Lenny, > > > > > > While I agree that all these labels are not always helpful, I think that > > > there is a difference between HFA and aspergers. Guest guest
When I say still calling it a devastating diagnosis.... I mean that if autism still exists in the future....hopefully we won't be having discussions like this someday. > > > > > > > > Dear Lenny, > > > > > > > > While I agree that all these labels are not always helpful, I > think that > > > > there is a difference between HFA and aspergers.
