Guest guest
I just bought my 15 mo old a " My 1st Summer " Rainbow Shade pool from Walmart yesterday (made in China). Almost immediately, his eyes became red and inflamed. It is now 19 hours later and his eyes are still pretty bad. I am in the process of writing to the company and returning it to Walmart. I would like to know what the heck made it do this. (possible connection with plastic/water reaction)?? www.toyquest.com

Guest guest
Is it vinyl? I don't know if this has been brought up here before, but in college one of my profs did a study about vinyl kids products, like inflatable pools, balls etc. that when exposed to sunlight would have a chemical reaction like what you see with the old 'lead' vinyl blinds. That has been long ago, hadnt heard anything else about it since--maybe I've just missed it. Doesn't sound like your pool was out long enough for that to happen, but wanted to pass that along incase someone here might not know and unknowingly expose their kids to lead. > > I just bought my 15 mo old a " My 1st Summer " Rainbow Shade pool from > Walmart yesterday (made in China). Guest guest
Any of those plastic blow up things are horrible. I would suggest something by Little Tikes or Step 2 and putting it in the shade. We don't have a shady spot in our backyard so we bought a big beach umbrella. It came with a big wooden stake you hammer into the ground, you put a metal sleeve over the stake and then the umbrella rested in that sleeve. This is the pool my son has. http://members.aol.com/ratlenhum/pool.jpg my neighbor gave it to us after using it for 2 years. And this will be our 5 th summer with it. My son was 18 months old when we got it. Check Craigs list, ebay (local search) and yard sales to find one reasonably price. I'm sorry your son had such a bad reaction. I hope he feels better soon Kerrie Get trade secrets for amazing burgers. Watch "Cooking with Tyler Florence" on AOL Food.
Guest guest
If the pool is flexible vinyl, odds are they used a lead based stabilizer in the formula. I can almost guarantee that it is also plasticized with DEHP (phthalate). You can get a lead tester for around $5 at Home Depot, in the paint section. Harry H. Get trade secrets for amazing burgers.
