Just thought I'd weigh in on the topic of recovery. I am one of the

fortunate parents of a completely recovered child. My son was

diagnosed at age 2 with PDD-NOS and his diagnosis was removed in time

to go to a typical kindergarten (no more services of any kind were

needed). He is now almost 8, in 3rd grade, and doing amazingly

well! You would never know he had ever been on the spectrum. We

still have him on a GFCF, egg-free diet. I have no idea if he would

regress if we took him off the diet but I am not willing to risk it.

He's used to eating the way he does now and he's fine with it.

Occasionally we'll get him french fries out at a restaurant with

possible cross-contamination and he will say later that his stomach

hurts but that is about all we see. He is still on quite a few

supplements but they are mostly for his immune system, ie. Transfer

Factor, Vitamin C, etc.

I have a friend who also had a recovered son who had been on the SCD

diet. She told me that she took him off the diet and now he has more

ADHD behaviors. That was all the evidence I needed to keep my son on

his diet. It's a hassle of course but it's so worth it!

I just started reading 's new book by the way and I'm only a few

chapters into it but I've already cried several times and laughed out

loud. She does have a note in her book too that says she is donating

a portion of the proceeds to Generation Rescue. I personally just

love that woman for speaking up for all of us!

Thank you Kerry! There is nothing I like more than hearing of

another recovery. Continues to give me hope and encourages my drive even

more. These stories are excessively important. -

I completely agree .

I also appreciate that many of you with recovered children keep helping those recovering our kids.

My grandson was started on the diet at age 3, he is 12 now. He is still has moderate/severe autism. He has very little pragmatic language. When there is a dietary infraction though, we totally lose him, and there is no intelligible speech. So it does help him but he has not recovered from autism. He gets supps too.

He doesn't have autism, but she would still rather use the word recovered than cured.

I thought I heard tell Oprah her son doesn't have autism now.

he doesn't have the label of autism anymore, has some auditory

processing issues, but it's not a cure it's a recovery. Cure is too absolute,

anyone with immune dysfuction is going to continue needing some level of help,

that's why the word recovery not cure. But it doesn't seem to be stopping any

of the writers to be subsituting the word cure for her word recover. -

Come on, . You know that the dx of autism is based on symptoms.

When I saw her present in she did indicate her son still had some

issues but he did not have autism any longer. He does still have his

seizure disorder though I think.

Did you see that it has a place to send in your questions for McCarthy?

I just sent a question. Lots of questions will show the producers Larry King that this is a very worthy show. Send in questions to support McCarthy.
