Guest guest
I don't know the amount of time they should do this in, but I am also in Cobb County and even with a prescription from the doctor, we do not receive OT. We have been told that the OT a doctor prescribes is for private therapy and that there is a difference in OT in the schools and what you get privately. Myself and a friend have been fighting Cobb County for OT for years. I know this isn't exactly what you would like to hear, but just a heads up. Good Luck and keep us informed. You can e-mail me off list if you would like. Michele mommachief@... -- OT Evaluation Does anybody know the amount time the school system has to perform an OT evaluation? We requested an OT eval over two months ago, my son has an IEP and a prescription from the doctor for OT. We are in the Cobb school system. Guest guest
Hi, I have just request a neuro-psychological evaluation, complete speech and language evaluation,OT evaluation, central auditory processing assessment and executive functioning assessment. I'm having problems with my son school and a advocacy told me to request this test and the school has 60 days to respond. I will tell you this my son has many sensory problems and he was getting 15minutes a week of OT at school last year they increase for 30minutes after we ask for a increase for years. The school told us that OT at school is different they don't work sensory integration problems they focus at motor skills(that is what every OT told me at IEP meetings). I told that to Georgia Advocacy,Georgia department of education and parent educating parent. They told me that this is not accurate information and if my son sensory integration problems is affecting him on learning they need to address that. You can call Georgia Advocacy for more information.Make sure you tape your IEP(let the school know that you are going to do that). Guest guest
I forget the numver of days, but there are guidelines for how long they have when you request an independent evaluation done at school expense. Be sure you put the request in writing and make yourself a copy of all correspondence, also send it certified return receipt. Guest guest
I'm still currently living in VA, but it sounds like the school systems there are similar to the ones here. The best piece of advise I can give anyone is make sure you include everything & I mean everything in the PLP (present level of performance) on the IEP. The PLP needs to give a complete & accurate picture of your child. If your child has sensory issues include this, but be careful with your wording. Don't come out & say sensory issues, use other words to describe your child. I've found our school system won't even consider O.T. for SID, but if you word it so it's impacting learning then that's an issue they must address in some fashion. I know parents here have been successful with this tactic, but in some cases it took awhile. Like the child showed no improvement for a long period of time & then they were able to make the point that the child needed O.T. not just working with the special educator. A few years ago we were lucky to have a special educator write this in for us (we didn't know any better at the time) & the sensory issues our daughter had was addressed by these goals however she didn't get O.T. We were lucky that she improved & now doesn't have any sensory issues. However we provide private O.T. twice a month to help catch up with fine & gross motor. The crazy part of this is my daughter receives physical therapy through our school district. However this year they dropped it to 30 min. a month. To me it seems very strange a child would qualify for P.T. & not O.T.
