PSYCHIC CLAIM PROMPTS CHILDREN'S AID INVESTIGATION

Jun, 17 2008 - 8:00 AM BARRIE (93.1 CHAY FM) - A Barrie mother of an autistic daughter is in shock after Children's Aid visited her to investigate allegations of sexual abuse -- based on information from a psychic.

Colleen Leduc says her daughter 's teaching assistant visited the psychic who asked if she taught a girl whose name was ``V.'

The psychic then went on to tell her that the child was being abused by a young man.

The assistant told school officials at Terry Fox Elementary school in Barrie who in turn called in the C-A-S.

Leduc says a Children's Aid official visited her home but closed the file calling the report ``ridiculous'.

Under the Child and Family Services Act, anyone who works with children and has reasonable grounds to suspect a youngster is being harmed, must report it immediately - and the CAS has an obligation to follow up.

A school board official says they will do their own investigation into the incident.
