Guest guest
As a child I was diagnosed with hearing loss and anemia. But was never diagnosed with CMT until later years. My son also has hearing loss but no anemia and he has CMT too. I really don't know if it is related or not. Carol
Guest guest
Amy, In somme types of CMT, there can be hearing loss. To see all the types, go to http://neuromuscular.wustl.edu/time/hmsn.html Gretchen
Guest guest
Amy, I would ask if she should be doing certain exercises/stretches to hopefully keep her feet muscles/tendons from tightening and pulling in. I wish we had caught this with my son earlier but too late. Good luck Lori
Guest guest
Amy, The hearing loss rings a bell as my sons physiatrist asked if my son had his hearing checked so that may very well be a possibility of the CMT. Lori
Guest guest
My daughter without CMT had anemia and hearing loss. My CMT kids never had anemia or hearing loss.
Guest guest
For the past 3 years I have experienced spurts of hearing loss, it would start to sound like my ears wouldn't " pop " and it would get more and more muffled as time progressed. then as mysteriously as it began, it would begin to open back up. I have CMT 1A. I've been to doctors, specialists and had MRI's. Nobody was able to nail down the reason. I like to exhaused any other possiblity before I chalk things up to my CMT. I had started talking in this group about this about a year ago, asking about whether CMT may be a reason and found that there was indeed cases. Around this time, I began to take my regular Zyrtec D for my usual summertime Hay Fever. I began to start hearing again. TADA! Though trial & error now, I found out that as long as I take my Zyrtec daily my ear is clear. If I skip more that 2 days, my ear begins to " close up " . I don't know what I'm allergic to, and it doesn't matter. I just remember to take my Zyrtec D (for some reason this is the only thing that works. The reason that I'm writing this is to suggest that, if the hearing loss is a muffled sort of thing, sometimes like there's water in your ear or your ears just won't " pop " try allergy medicine. When I figured this out, I had been taking Zyrtec for a couple weeks (normal summertime fun) before I realized my hearing was coming back. Now, If I forget or wait too long, and my ear actually " closes " it sometimes takes a couple days to clear up. Just a personal story, and maybe something tho think about. defman
