Guest guest
I agree..not only mattresses, but pillows. I once (before I knew better) ordered a memory foam type pillow. As soon as I opened the package I almost passed out. The chemical smell was awful. I can't believe they sell these for people to sleep on - even if you don't have a reaction, breathing in those fumes is detrimental to anyone's health. Needless to say, that pillow was returned. Guest guest
Very true mattresses can be very toxic, here is an article I found. Even related to alot of us !! http://www.enn.com/pollution/article/33754    God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: sparksella <sparksella@...>  Sometime ago I posted about reactions to paint. That was probably March or April. I used your suggestions, and got no relief. I slept on the couch in the living room, and had fewer symptoms throughout the night and in the morning. To make a long story short, I got rid of my mattress first, then the coverings on the box springs. I have a wire bottomed futon frame now in my bedroom, and am using old blankets and sheets to lay on. I also removed 2 pieces of old furniture, which oddly enough, made a difference. Both are wood. One is over 30 yrs old, the other over 15. I can sleep in there now with minimal symptoms. From that, I am guessing that moving the mattress and springs, both over 12 yo jiggled the chemicals around and turned some loose, as it were, and my reactions were to them. Remember, my symptoms started when I put my head on my pillow. I later found a website that lists many of the chemicals in mattress materials. It's a wonder we're not all dead... Guest guest
Re: mattress: Ella, did you try putting mattress and box springs in plastic zippered covers, or does plastic bother you? I have alot of allergies and put the old mattress set in that. I have to get rid of some old furniture too. > > Sometime ago I posted about reactions to paint. That was probably March or April. Guest guest
I've had good luck with using a hypoallergenic mattress cover. Inside we put a carbon blanket and that made a big difference. Re: mattress: Ella, did you try putting mattress and box springs in plastic zippered covers, or does plastic bother you? Guest guest
No. It never occurred to me to. Wish I would have known, I would have given it a try. Does it work? DOes it work for many of you? Ella > > Re: mattress: Ella, did you try putting mattress and box springs in plastic zippered covers, or does plastic bother you? Guest guest
I don't know specifically if mattress covers helped since I did so many things all at one time, but the plastic matress and box spring covers I bought don't smell at all and cover completely. You need to get the kind that fully encloses them and zips shut. Some say to then put tape over the zipper too so nothing gets in or out. I feel so much better though than I did in my house but not sure which things did what. > > No. It never occurred to me to. Wish I would have known, I would have given it a try. Does it work? Guest guest
They also sell encasements made of polypropelene. Which is the material of tyveck suits. For pillows also.   God Bless !! dragonflymcs Mayleen ________________________________ From: sparksella <sparksella@...> Sent: Sat, November 28, 2009 4:54:02 PM Subject: [] Re: I Removed My Mattress  No. It never occurred to me to.
