Hi Martha! Welcome to un-lurking! :-)

Sounds like you've done really well overall ! Good for you!!

" Dysphagia " simply means a swallowing poroblem, but it can be from a

great many causes. Any type of swallowing problem like this should be

checked out by our band docs with a fluoro. We need them every 6

months at least, when we are in the active fill-and-lose period, but

many US docs do not utilize then well, imo and rarely if ever get

one. the MX docs use them with EVERY fill, to evaluate the pouch

size, band position, esophagus, rate of flow thru the stoma, etc -

and they pick up many early problems while they are still easily

fixed.

It's possible you have a small pouch dilation, or esophagel motility

problems - both can be helped, but they must be evaluated first.

As you know. it's very impt to avoid barfing with the band. a few

occasional barfs may be ok, but they all encourage slips. Any

situation that casues regular barfing should be evaluated.

Please be seen asap, and let us know how you are - and what the doc

thinks - so we all can learn!

Glad you'r with us!

Martha,

I have no idea what Dyshagia is, but as I sit & type to you I am

having my chewable zyrtec and chewable multi-vitamin. Quite a long

time ago, before I was banded, I was on zyrtec. It stopped working,

so I was switched to allegra. When I decided to get banded the

allegra sounded like it might be too big. My PCP told me that I could

not cut or crush the allegra, but that zrytec came in a chewable.

I've been on it since June of 06 with no problems. I was banded July

of 06.

Yes, I would go see your doctor. You might ask if the chewable would

help.

My husband with late onset CMT and dysphagia after a very serious illness went

to USC although his doctor here said it would be a waste of time. The treatment

is working. It consists of swallowing lidocaine and then 30 minutes later

sticking a tube down his thraot to stretch the upper espohageal sphincter. The

lidocaine gets rid of the gag reflex. He still gets some nourishment through

his stomach tube, but he is eating almost anything he wants without choking.
