Bill... all Usarian's posts come through normal on my computer... maybe this is a incompatibility thing... or something? Jennie

Bill - Usarians's posts are teeny tiny on my computer too, it's not

just yours!

And I agree, the messages are of value, but difficult to read.

So, I wonder what our systems are 'doing' to the font for it to display

so small?

Best wishes

Delyth

Is it all messages from my email account?

We use Windows Live Mail, but I will sometimes respond from work using a

web-based interface.

Also, I try to cut and paste (unless I'm trying to respond quickly on my way

to work in the AM) when I am home, but e doesn't generally. Yahoo's

text box thing is very difficult to work around. The text shows up as an

image of text until I click on it three times on the border, then it becomes

selectable text. (Awfully strange mechanism)

From my end all messages appear nearly identical, except for very rare

exceptions.

Looking at my default settings, it's all Arial, 10pt.

Is this all recent changes? Or has it always been this way?

Anyway.. This message was written using the PLAIN TEXT setting instead of

html.. hope it looks better for you.

In e's original (12/05/08 07:42 am) which started all this, *her

response* to Kamryn was as I described - tiny and scrunched - in a

sans-serif face/font.

But Kamryn's original, carried over into e's response, was a

" normal " size serifed face/font.

No. Some have come through to me more " normal " -looking. But

infrequently; a big majority are tiny and scrunched.

It's in the transmitted code. See below.

But in the transmitted HTML code:

---------------------------------------------------------

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Kamryn,</FONT></DIV>

<DIV><FONT face=Arial size=2>Back from work and as promised I am going

to respond with my view of things. & nbsp; </FONT></DIV>

---------------------------------------------------------

That " size=2 " is what's doing it. " Sizes " range from 1-7, with 1 the

smallest. The code says: use the Arial typeface and make it *tiny*.

NB: That means *override* what you thought you had ( 10pt ).

What the recipient *sees* is influenced by their own email client:

IF it " understands " Arial, THEN text is displayed in a *tiny* sans-serif

font. Like I and Delyth see; and now also you.

ELSE (not understood) text is displayed in the client's default font and

size. Like Helen and some others seem to be seeing.

Email from you and e via ASPIRES always has been tiny and

scrunched (as seen at my end) -- with rare exceptions.

Perfect! I wish everyone did that.

Everyone would see the same thing. And a side benefit to " the

archives " would be hugely reduced storage requirements, at least 3:1 and

often much more. : <hint-hint, nudge-nudge> ;)
