Guest guest
I'm doing my first major surgery next week. Triple Ankle Fusion, tendon lengthening, arch lowering ... pretty much the whole nine yards. Not bad I guess that I've lasted this long (age 59) but I'm in rough shape and at least a few years overdue. I've rerad all the stuff here and at Crabtree's archive about what I should tell the anesthesiologist, but figure nothing helps like hearing personal experiences. Anything to suggest other than minimize paralytics, keeping me warm and expecting slow wake up? I've mentioned succhinole (sp) choline, but everyone tells me it's no longer used. I've read that ion some places that spinal or epidural is better for CMT'ers, but in others that they can be more risky. I think my niece had some after effects with epidural for a pregnancy. Guest guest
As long as the anesthesiologist understands CMT you will be fine. Our surgeon always puts me at ease by letting me know everything is taken care of on his end. LOL
Guest guest
Hi. I've had two surgeries myself and there wasn't any problem at all with anesthesia. I wouldn't recommend epidural. I am not trying to be funny but I had it tough when the anesthesia was gone. It was very painful. The anesthesia that is used now is awesome! I woke up fine and wasn't nauseous or anything. I felt very relaxed. Don't worry about it. Years back it was bad. Not anymore. I had it intravenous last time and epidural the first. (PARDON MY WRITING. ENGLISH IS MY SECOND LANGUAGE). @...: gdevinney@...: Tue, 3 Feb 2009 04:35:14 +0000Subject: What has people's experience been with anasthesia? I'm doing my first major surgery next week. Guest guest
I met with him yesterday and gave him some of the CMT Anesthesia articles and asked related questions. Basically he said the precautions are the same as they would take with any patient with a little extra care for neuro-muscular disease: Minimize paralytics and muscle relaxers.
