I'm not sure but I believe you take it 4 hrs. apart but WITH food. You

can also take other meds with along with it.

CSM is not to be taken with food but Welchol you can. Take CSM about 1/2

hr. to and hr. before eating and other meds.

I do take it with food...Thanks.I

Here is the CSM protocol that I followed from Dr. Shoemaker in Dec. 2003.

As far as I know there are no changes. I always mixed mine in the small

plastic sippy cups (the kind kids use with the straws) with the straw

removed. I took it 4X a day at least 4 hrs. apart and NEVER missed a dose! If

you

mix it in the cup before you go out you don't need to do anything but shake

and swallow. Take an extra bottle of water along with you. I carried mine

in a small insulated type lunch bag.

1. On an empty stomach, take one scoop of CSM (9 grams), mix with

water, or juice, 4-6 oz

2. Stir well and swallow. Add more liquid, repeat 1 above until done.

3. Drink an extra 4-6 oz of liquid

4. After 30 minutes, you may eat or take meds (wait at least 2 hours

before taking thyroxine, digitalis, theophylline, coumadin and

others, ask your doctor for information)

5. Take CSM 4 times a day!

6. If you eat first, wait at least 60 minutes before taking your next

CSM

7. Reflux, constipation, bloating and bowel distress are to be

expected

8. Use acid blocking medications as needed

9. Use sorbitol, 70% solutions, 1 TBSP 3-4 times a day to relieve

constipation

HI,

My son's doctor wants him to get the CSM in with or without food.

What you do want to make sure is to keep the CSM away from meds and

supplements, one of my son's doctor says 2 hrs away each direction, and

various websites say 1 hr before and 4+ hours after.

This is because the CSM prevents absorption of the other meds and supplements.

I think the other doctor actually said the best way to take it was 1/2

hour after food, but I may be confused, it has something to do with

eating and getting the bile flowing before taking the CSM, then the CSM

binds with the bile and pulls it out of the body. But in the end, this

doctor also said take it with or without food, just get it into him when

you can, but keep away from the meds...
