Guest guest
My sons neurologist wears MBT's which are similar to the Sketchers brand. He swears by them and suggests them highly. Unfortunately they do not make them in kids sizes. Lori
Guest guest
I have a pair of MBTs, too, and I find my posture is almost perfect when I wear them! Usually I tilt forward when I walk and I have drop foot so my feet tend to slap the floor when I walk. This does not happen when I have on my MBTs BUT you must start off slowly when wearing them. They will tell you that when you purchase them. They are expensive but I feel I walk so much better in them which, in turn, helps with the back. Guest guest
Thanks Lori and Karon -Your messages are encouraging. Lori - Based on how I am feeling about Skechers Shape Ups and the like I am encouraged by companies who can help with fighting the symptons that impact those of us with CMT disease. Karon - your advise to take it SLOWLY is noted. I am so encouraged by the possibilities that I've been trying to wear them all day and at times being frustrated by the imbalance or almost falling. I'll " slow my roll. " I have been able to stand still with the feet at shoulder distance and perform " rock and roll " exercises as the booklet and DVD suggests (rocking from heel to toe and back). I had much trouble with this before on my balance board. It's gotten a little easier. Thanks for the responses. It tells me that the other senses can be re-taught to respond to the degradation of sensory nerves in the feet. After slowing the progression in the legs my plan is to see if there is something to help the rapid decline of the sensory nerves of the fingertips and hands. Again, Thanks. Guest guest
MBTs are good if your balance is good enough. Some people with CMT might like them, but personally I think they are horrible! I tried both with braces (can´t tip forward, so walking on my heals) and without braces (like walking on a boat in a heavy storm). My partner (no CMT) wears his MBTs always! He can't walk without! So for people with a good or almost normal sence of balance, they are great! I would not get my child used to them though. Kids muscles need the build up by normal flat shoes. MBT uses other muscles, like thigh muscles. Also I wouln't want him to get too used to these shoes (like his father) because it can be handicapping not to be able to wear anything else due to great discomfort.
