How does everyone find places to live?

I am curious since I am still new to all of this. Is there a way to test places

that people might go to rent or to possibly buy? I am wondering do most people

on the board here rent or do you just take your chances with purchasing a place

and hope there isn't mold behind the drywall?

My husband asked me what if we have mold in the next place and how do we find a

place that doesn't have mold? I live in Florida
