Guest guest
Hello everyone, Hope you guys having a great time with your and friends. Today when checking about the symptoms of CMT, it is obvious to me that high arche and hammer toes are common for many CMT patients. Therefore, I just want to ask if anyone has some info on the percentage of CMT people having high arche and hammer toes. Also, I know that many people here having family member with CMT while at the teenage years, so could you please tell me what are the first symptoms that lead you to suspect that they have CMT besides funny walk and/or hammer toes? Happy holidays everyone and I hope that a treatment will come in couple years to come. Best, Minh Vo
Guest guest
Neurologist check the muscle mass in the hand between the thumb and the rest of the hand. This muscle atrophies and leaves a web of skin there. Also, the pin prick or sharpness check from lower to upper extremities in legs and arms is a common tool. Varus heel is often on the left side only and hammer toes come bilateral. In my case symptoms appeared about age 11 and just continued to get worse but quite slowly. I'm 74 now and getting seriously difficult with walking. BTB I've been using a fixed AFO on the left only for about 15 years and walk peg leg style with a considerable slap on the right side. I had a pair of hinged AFOs made and they were too tight on the outside of the shin so have not used them regularly. EdM from NH
