Guest guest
Hey, - I had carpal tunnel surgery a number of years ago. It went so easily and relieved the pain immediately. I had a few weeks of physical therapy afterwards, but honestly, I had no pain, either from the surgery or the therapy. I have been fine for years. If your docs think it can help - go for it - it is so worth it. Hope this helps. Jackie <hugs> **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
Hi Jackie, Thanks for sharing your experience with CTS surgery. I'm still weighing my options and am trying to decide if this is something I want to go through with. At the same time, the pain in my left hand is so unbearable at times that I wished I could do the surgery yesterday. LOL! I think the mild CTS in my right hand might be getting worse because I woke up in alot of pain this morning. I'll have to talk to my physical therapist about this further to make sure it's not progressing. My doctor told me to wear wrist splints on both hands which I'm doing. It's helping my right hand, but not my left. Can you tell me how long you were unable to use your hand after surgery? I'm left handed and am concerned about not having the use of my left hand for awhile. Guest guest
Hi, : I had carpal tunnel surgery in 1995 (both hands, separate surgeries), so it's been 14 years now. Smartest thing I ever did. I didn't have pain in my hands, per se, but the numbness and tingling was unbearable. I had to sleep with my arms hanging over the side of the bed. But all the symptoms were gone the minute I woke up from surgery. Recovery wasn't bad. I think my hand was wrapped up for a week. It's not that hard to use your other hand for a couple weeks. It's a while before you can do things that involve totally bending your wrist with weight on it, like rock climbing, but you can sign your name or type within a couple weeks. Guest guest
Anne, Reading your post encourages me and makes me feel a whole lot better about having CTS surgery. If I'm only limited for 2 weeks, that's not bad. By the way, my physical therapist said that I also have some joint damage in my left hand which is why I experience so much pain. I'm thinking about having my doctor give me an x-ray in order to determine if I have arthritis. I'm also thinking about asking my neurologist (or whoever does my CTS surgery) if they can consider doing my right hand as well -- although I don't know if they will since the CTS is only mild. Perhaps if I explain that I'm deafblind and use my hands often they'll do it. Guest guest
Hey, - I was without the use of my hand for only a day or two. After that I was careful not to overwork it - i.e. lots of writing or typing, lifting anything heavy, but after a week or so I was as good as new. I continued to do hand exercises at home, but I really wasn't incapacitated much at all. My pain extended all the way up my arm and across my shoulder. I wore the splints, too, but they didn't help. This surgery was a godsend. Good luck! <hugs> Jackie **************A Good Credit Score is 700 or Above. See yours in just 2 easy steps! Guest guest
Jackie, I had physical therapy this morning at a G*d forsaken hour (8:00 am), but it went really, really well. She pointed out that I have better range of movement in my left wrist today and said surgery may not be necessary for me -- at least not now. She couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't be necessary in the near future, but said at this time, it may not be needed. We'll see how things progress from here. I have 2 more PT appointments to go. Guest guest
A doctor talked my husband into carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel surgery, and it totally made no difference in his symptoms. Elinor
