Guest guest
I just went out and purchased two new toilet plungers but the rubber really stinks. I washed them outside and left them on the deck to sit in the sun for 2 days. Anyone know how to get rid of the smell or will it eventually go away? My suggestion is: keep it away from you, out of the house or somewhere you won't smell it and nowhere near anything absorbent or it too will smell like rubber. Rubber takes a very long time to outgas. Toilet plungers also come in hard black plastic. > >
Guest guest
Sue, On its own, the smell will probably never go away; I have had similar experiences with rubber items, mostly made in China! You could try soaking them in bleach or 10% hydrogen peroxide, and then airing them out. But try to find some that do not smell. There are newer style plastic ones that have no odor. Guest guest
Sue: For the meantime you can wrap the rubber in foil (just regular aluminum foil.) If you need one in an emergency the foil rips off quickly. Dr Rea teaches everyone to foil things that off-gas, its easy and works very well.
