Guest guest
XMRV virus test for chronic fatigue syndrome now available http://www.ei- resource. org/news/ chronic-fatigue- syndrome- news/xmrv- virus-test- for-chronic- fatigue-syndrome -now-available/ Written by Hogg Tuesday, 08 December 2009 Following the breakthrough discovery of the XMRV retrovirus in a highly significant number of chronic fatigue syndrome patients a US lab is now making a diagnostic test available to the public. Viral Immune Pathology Diagnostics (VIP Dx) based in Reno, Nevada announced that it was making the test for XMRV available to chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) patients in the United States and Canada. VIP Dx say there is already a 4-6 week wait for test kits as a result of the excitement the XMRV discover has generated among ME/CFS patients and their doctors. The techniques used for the testing in the research study that has stunned the ME/CFS world and projected the condition into the mainstream have been licensed by VIP Dx for their own test. Dr. Lombardi, an investigator on the study and co-author of the paper that appeared in the 8 October 2009 issue of Sthe journal cience has been appointed Director of Operations for the licensing and development of the XAND test assays used by VIP Dx for the detection of XMRV. XAND is an abbreviation for XMRV Associated Neuroimmune Disorder, the name which has been given to ME/CFS and other illnesses that may be found to be associated with the virus. Many syndromes such as fibromyalgia and Gulf War syndrome which share much in common with ME/CFS are prime candidates for future XMRV studies. The test uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) techniques which amplify fragments of genetic material to enable detection of the virus. The VIP Dx test also includes a viral culture to confirm the results. VIP Dx provide the following information and instructions regarding the test: Each XMRV specimen must have an XAND acceptance code on the test requisition. The XAND acceptance code is assigned by our staff and will arrive on the test requisition in your specimen kit. Specimens sent without the appropriate acceptance code may result in the delay or inability to perform the diagnostic test. The diagnostic test available for XAND* is as follows: XAND - XMRV screen by PCR with virus culture confirmation: Test Code XAND ($650) We are accepting XAND tests on Tuesdays and Fridays only due to the incubation period required for proper analysis. Therefore, you must have your blood drawn on Monday or Thursday and ship immediately back to us by priority overnight FedEx for receipt by us on Tuesday or Friday. For XAND testing you must use the coded test requisition provided with your kit. Refer to the updated specimen guidelines in the right column of the test requisition for proper blood draw. No special preparation is required for specimens; ship specimens at ambient (room) temperature. Specimens must be received within 24 hours for proper analysis. Collection and shipping instructions are included in each kit along with all required specimen tubes. The return clinical envelope and overnight airbill are also included. To order you test kit, please e-mail your full name, address and telephone number to info@... e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . There is a 4-6 week back order. VIP Dx is committed to having everyone tested who wants to be tested. Please accept our sincere apology for any delays. We thank you for your support and patience. Guest guest
Read the below article, carefully. They are saying that chronic fatigue syndrome " may be " a " zoonotic disease " . The " M " in XMRV, stands for " Murine " , which means " MOUSE " . There is only one group of people who regularly " play with mice " . That group is " scientists and pharmaceutical researchers " , who are supposed to be the ones that are supposed to be making us healthy. If their hypothesis is correct, then they are THE VERY ONE'S who have brought about the plague of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Joe .................................................................................\ ................. Pathogen fingered as a potential culprit in chronic fatigue syndrome Little-known retrovirus found in many people with condition The long, fruitless search for the cause of chronic fatigue syndrome has taken a curious turn. An obscure retrovirus shows up in two-thirds of people diagnosed with the condition and can infect human immune cells, scientists report online October 8 in Science. These findings don't establish that the pathogen, called gammaretrovirus XMRV, causes chronic fatigue, cautions study coauthor Silverman of the Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute. " Nevertheless, it's exciting because it is a viable candidate for a cause. " Roughly 1 million to 4 million people in the United States have chronic fatigue syndrome, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Characterized by unexplained mental and physical exhaustion, memory lapses, muscle pain, insomnia, digestive distress and other health problems, chronic fatigue is often diagnosed only after everything else has been ruled out. In the study, researchers tested blood from 101 people diagnosed with the syndrome and found that 68 were infected with the retrovirus. An analysis of blood from 218 healthy people showed that only eight had XMRV--nearly 4 percent. " This is a very striking association -- two-thirds of the patients, " says Coffin of Tufts University in Boston, who wasn't involved in the study. Studies of its genes suggest XMRV arose from a mouse retrovirus that somehow jumped to humans. Study coauthor Judy Mikovits, a cell biologist at the Whittemore Institute in Reno, Nev., says that the retroviral infection could result in an immune deficiency that leads to chronic fatigue symptoms in some people. Other retroviruses, such as HIV, are known to attack the immune system. In this study, researchers showed that XMRV could infect immune cells in the blood. " This may end the controversy as to whether there is an underlying infection in some cases of chronic fatigue syndrome but is unlikely to explain all cases, " says Dedra Buchwald of the University of Washington in Seattle. Retroviruses can awaken latent viruses already in cells, so XMRV might affect health only indirectly, by activating other viruses, she says. XMRV, short for xenotropic murine leukemia virus-related virus, also shows up in some men with prostate cancer, particularly those with aggressive malignancies, another research team reported in September in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. In the new study, the researchers found hints that the retrovirus is transmitted by blood. But it's probably not spreading very fast, Mikovits says. Further research is under way to fine-tune testing for XMRV, and more studies are planned to clarify its occurrence rate in the general population. Mikovits and her colleagues are also investigating already-approved antiretroviral drugs to see if these will benefit people diagnosed with chronic fatigue. A nearly 4 percent infection rate in healthy controls means that as many as 10 million Americans may harbor a hidden infection, Coffin notes. But until further studies are done, the effects of those infections remain unclear.
Guest guest
This sounds exciting, but is the retrovirus a secondary opportunistic infection from a compromised immune system? Guest guest
Patilla, that could be possable, but from the beganing what has been termed as chronic fatique syndrome has been thought to be caused by a virus. that started from the incline village ordeal in nv. late 70's, where if I recall right several people got sick from a nearby hog feed lot, bacterial, fungal, and viruses, any or all could be involved there. lots of different diseases can involve fatique but this is where the CFS term started, not from water damaged buildings or sick building syndrome. sometimes terms first applied to things stick with them, to the point that you might not get diagnosed with CFS if it wasn't caused by this virus. you might just get diagnosed with fatique, may depend on the doctor diagnosing it. > > This sounds exciting, but is the retrovirus a secondary opportunistic > infection from a compromised immune system? > > Barth > > www.presenting.net/sbs/sbs.html > > SUBMIT YOUR DOCTOR: www.presenting.net/sbs/molddoctors.html > > --- >
Guest guest
I know someone that got sick from a virus while working in a hog feed lot, he gets boughts of not felling well, gains alot of weight, than losses it,gets some kind of rash off and on, he never talked about it much but I could tell he had a hard time dealing with it, I do know his brother said there were times he just layed in his room for months, haven't see him in a long time.
