Wheelchair accessible bathrooms

I need to turn our bathroom into one: replace the sink and replace the tub with

a wheelchair-in shower.

How do I hire a contractor? I know what I want to be able to do in the

bathroom,, but I don't know how to get it done. Several contractors have looked

at the 54 sq ft room and estimates have ranged from $12k to $45k.

I need an architect to draw up plans for my condo's home owners' association and

a contractor to do the work. One contractor recommended an architect and the

contractor said that I made a change with the architect that the contractor says

he can't do. He's also told me that one of his suggested solutions is no longer

available. He told me that after the plans were drawn up by the architect that

he recommended. I'm confused.

It appears that I have to coordinate the two and I don't know how. I need to

get more recommendations from both in writing and make certain that the lot of

us find out about changes that have taken place since original recommendations

were made. How can I enforce that, i.e., get them to share information.

I've checked these people out for complaints filed with the state and have found

none. In my experience, the Better Business Bureau isn't a very helpful

resource. It has no teeth.
