Guest guest
Yesterday, Dr. Oz had Tim Gunn from Project Runway on his show. Tim Gunn is a fashion guru and he was brought to the show yesterday to help two women who recently overcame breast cancer. It was a very interesting show, because they talked a great deal about the value of appearance to an individual's mental and physical health. They said that if a person looks good on the outside, he/she can actually heal faster on the inside! There's a lot of criticism posted lately toward those who care about their appearance, including comments that those who care about how they look are paying too much attention to what others think and giving over control of their lives to others. I disagree with this assumption. To show care for one's appearance reflects good self-esteem. It does affect how we feel inside. It has an impact on our mental and physical health. It can also affect our desire to live, to socialize with others, and to enjoy activities. In addition, it can impact how others treat us. To care about one's appearance does not mean that we are being controlled by others or living for others. Instead it can mean just the opposite, that we are taking more control over our own lives and improving our health.
