Guest guest
1. I have CMT-2 (Axonal form) 2. I take daily a natural supplement, " Memo on " , an Ayurvedic herbal cocktail ( Bacopa monnieri extract, Convolvulus pluricaulis, Gumacacia, Glycyrrhiza glabra extract, Yashad bhasm, Piper longum, Emblica officinalis. ) It is a very good supplement for memmory. Are these Indian ayurvedic herbs safe for me? QUESTION: Please look the herbs you can find in this natural product! IS IT SAFE FOR CMT? I try to avoid things that can affect the CMT evolution! (like tobaco, or alcohol, etc.) Thank you very much !
Guest guest
Orania, The Bacopa should be OK. The Convolvulus pluricaulis is used as a psychostimulant and tranquilizer, so I would be extremely carefull about any tranquilizing effects. The Gumacacia is probably OK. The Glycyrrhiza glabra extract: if you have sensitivity to Licorice, or are taking any medications like antibiotics, MAO inhibitors, and aspirin, I would think twice. The Yashad bhasm is mainly used for skin, so I don't see any CMT benefits or adverse effects. The Piper longum should be OK as long as you can tolerate spice/pepper. The Emblica officinalis should be OK, it is just another anti-oxidant. Make sure you do not have plant/botatical allergies to any of the ingredients. I cannot say this is 'safe' or not. If you are questioning it's safety I suggest you search through Quackwatch.com about it. If I have to take something new, be it herbal or medical, I always check it out for adverse affects first. You need to realize that CMT does not affect memory the brain or intelligence, and if you are taking this cocktail, the best you'll get are anti-oxidant affects. There hasn't been any concrete research done on anti-oxidants and CMT per se, but many people use different ones for their general health. I use alpha-tocopherol(Vit. E) Gretchen
