Guest guest
, Weekends are always quiet on ASPIRES so let me be the first to say CONGRATUALATIONS on your official dx of an ASD! I am so happy for you! I think it is so AWESOME you were able to be dx'd by Maxine Aston!!! Someday I hope to find a knowledgeable diagnostician too, and find closure as well. I have told ASPIRES members that though I identify firmly with the AS side of the spectrum - and this is based on my developmental history up to my late teens and possibly early 20's - today if I am fortunate enough to get a dx, it will also be PDD-NOS. In my 50+ years, I've learned a thing or two about social etiquette. <sheepish grin!> I firmly believe ASDs are simply part of the continuum of the human condition, that it isn't a mutation or a disease, and there is a very good reason why we were put here too. We are responsible for the advancement of civilization in science, technology, art, medicine etc. I'm believe that societal and environmental pressures in the 21st century are doing dire things to our population as well as that of our NT brethren, and the end result is that too many folks are being forced into situations, careers, etc. that are not natural for them and the result is stress, illness and sometimes severe dysfunction. In all but a few cases (severe autism with co-morbid conditions, especially health issues .. and even there some of those might have been averted were it not for toxins in the environment) it didn't have to be. Where it pertains to ASDs, knowledge is everything. It has certainly changed MY life. Being part of this listserv for 8 years has also made a HUGE difference for me, too. So again, another warm, heartfelt " CONGRATULATIONS " from me to U, from across the big pond (and quite a lot of flat terrain on the Canadian prairies <smile!>) on becoming " official!
