OT eval meeting frustration

Hi everyone

I just have to post to let out some steam. My husband and I just returned

from meeting with the OT that evaluated my son a few weeks ago. I got his

report last week and didn't totally understand what he had written, I posted

here and got some clarification and did a lot of computer searches to tide

me over until our meeting tonight. So we went in with questions and wanted

an in English translation of the report. He read us his recommendation from

the report so I asked, 'well what about what you said about sensory

processing dysfunction' and he said ' oh I wouldn't worry about that'. What

is that!!!??? I asked what of this is CMT related and what is related to

the fact that my son is actually left handed but was taught all through

school to be a righty so he has dominance confusion. So basically double

fatique from that and the CMT. I asked what do we do now. What would help my

son with his issues? We sat there for 45 minutes and he really could not

explain his report or offer us suggestions on what to do now. He did say we

should have an IEP rather than a 504 in school but that was his only

suggestion. I am so frustrated and have such a knot in my stomach. We do

have another OT eval scheduled with childrens specialized in October and I

am hoping the school will also evaluate him. Maybe I am making too much

about this but if there is something else I should be doing to help him out

I would like to do that. Why would he write he has sensory processing

dysfunction but I shouldn't worry about it!!! I ran out of there quick and

will never go back. What a mistake that was. Also he acted like he knew

what CMT was but maybe he really had no idea or very little idea.

Sorry to ramble on but I just needed to vent a bit and I do feel better. I

know there are others out there that can relate and I feel better knowing I

am not alone in trying to do the best for my son.
