Guest guest
....from part(A) Will once said: " It's not the things we don't know that get us into trouble. It's the things we know that just ain't true. " Hmm. Things we " know " ... That is, things we THINK we know. There's a lot of crap floating around the Internet, a fair amount these days centering on autism - specifically Asperger's. I claim a large fraction of that " just ain't true " . Certainly masses of it bear scant relationship to any formally agreed-upon professional criteria. I claim this MIS-information " poisons the well " . Recent ASPIRES threads which seem to associate " bad behavior " with Asperger's are an example. " Bad behavior " is NOT in any of the accepted criteria. ...NOR in any of the " emerging " criteria either. Period. People come to ASPIRES seeking many things. I believe one of those things is accurate information. To offer *less* than that, to allow IN-accurate information *without challenge*, is a disservice to troubled people and has potential for considerable harm. Hence my response to one post: I challenged an *incorrect* and potentially harmful AS/behavior association. Offered instead the possible, even likely, " boorish male " association (words to that effect). I stand by that. It happens. My remarks certainly WERE NOT designed to shield or excuse any " bad behavior " by any AS person. Explain? Yes. *Excuse*? Never! That said, ...to whoever needs to know: " We're kewl " . No problem here. - Bill, 76, dx AS; ...subsiding -- WD " Bill " Loughman - Berkeley, California USA http://home.earthlink.net/~wdloughman/wdl.htm
