IN NYS the Mental Health Associations of many counties often offer support groups for parents of children with psychiatric problems as well as groups for parents who have psychiatric illnesses. They would be a good place to find you are looking for..if they don't run them, they are likely to know who does. Here is the link to a list by county of MHA of NJ http://www.mhanj.org/page.php?p=28

Hello--

I have been working with a 10 year old girl whose mom is suffering with bipolar disorder with psychotic features. My client would really like to connect with other kids who are facing similar issues. Does anyone know of any existing groups, preferably in New Jersey, for children coping with these issues? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, would welcome any recommendations for books for kids that address this issue.

Thanks so much-- Hurwitz, LPC, LSW, ATR--

Hi: NAMI (it's FAMI in New York State) has groups for teenagers (I'm not sure if for younger children) as well as for siblings, etc. They are a wonderful organization. Check out their website. They have all sorts of services.

Good luck, Janet Sullivan, CMT, LCAT

I really think we need to readdress the issue regarding appropriate subjects for emails. I for one have gotten this email 6 times with different subjects.....Subject: Re: Re: resources for children of parents w/MITo: NYCCAT Date: Sunday, October 19, 2008, 12:41 PM
