(Bonner McCollum) Reply-to: hyperthyroidismegroups hyperthyroidismegroups I know muscle weakness is a problem with HyperT, but is muscle cramping in the legs and feet, particularly while at rest, a symptom of becoming HypoT? I've been drinking lots of orange and pink grapefruit juice recently, as well as taking my multi-vitamin, so I assumed my potassium level was okay. However, when I looked at the label on the vitamin/mineral supplement, I realize I'm only getting 2% of the daily recommended allowance. I don't really like bananas. Can anyone give me some more dietary boosters so I don't have to take another pill? I KNOW 's site is a great site for locating this information, but I have a problem navigating it. Does anyone have an " iThyroid.com for dummies " manual? Perhaps there is another vitamin/mineral lacking in my diet which is causing the cramping. I DON'T experience this after walking, so I don't think it's an issue of hydration. Thanks! >> Bonner, I have been having leg cramps in my calf while laying down. Guest guest
Muscle cramping is from lack of calcium and magnesium... so if you find the foods that are associated with these vitamins, you could supplement with them instead of a pill... Guest guest
Hi Bonner, I've had lots of problems with muscle cramps in the past - when i was hyper my legs would cramp in the middle of the night and i would have to stand up and stretch to relieve the cramp. Since being stabilised, it's only been an occassional occurrence - but it really bothered me when doing yoga, so i started on a magnesium tablet (one 500mg tab taken 4 or 5 nights a week) and this has really helped me. Plus I'm finally building up some muscle tone - it's great to have some strength after all these years. I don't bother about a calcium supp, because i love dairy - milk, cheese, sour cream... the list goes on and on! Jules Re: Muscle cramps > Thanks, Chris. Guest guest
Thanks, Chris. My multi-vitamin gives me 20% of the calcium daily requirement and I take 2 " Oscal 500+D " tablets a day, so I'm getting 120% of my calcium, via pills. I get additional calcium through dairy products. I don't really care for milk, but do like low-fat yogurt. I love cheese, but I try to limit it because of the fat and calories. I need to boost my magnesium, as I'm only getting 25% of the recommended daily amount through the multi-vitamin. It also provides 100% of the recommendation for copper, but I think I should supplement that as well. I'll check Ithyroid.com to get suggestions on magnesium-rich foods and adding copper to my diet. ===== Bonner
Guest guest
Just a little note on the calcium as I've noticed many other items that are higher in calcium then what milk provides and if you don't like it this will be even better. Dried Wheat grass or barley grass 514 mg of calcium, we have these great juice bar places that put wheat grass or barley grass in there juices Also, sardines 443, Almonds 233, hazelnuts 209, parsley 203, turnip greens 191, brazil nuts 186, sunflower seeds 174 (great on salads), watercress 151, garbanzo beans 150, black beans 135, pistashios 135, pinto beans 135, kale 134, spirulina 131 (I get this in a vitamin supplement), yogurt 121, and milk is only 119 after this theres collard greens, sesame seeds, tofu, walnuts, okra, salmon, cottage cheese, eggs, brown rice, bluefish, halibut, chicken, ground beef and mackerel. The weird sea vegetables available in whole-food stores provide 1,400 mg of calcium. > Re: Muscle cramps > > Thanks, Chris. Guest guest
Debby, I've had a lot of muscle cramps. Though it was due to low potassium but when that was checked all was OK. My Hepatologist said to drink a large glass of tonic water. I've done this and it helps a lot. The quinine in it is suppose to be what works and it seems to. Try this. It worked for me. The muscle cramps just keep on going until ev;entually they stop. Often I have to just twist into different positition to try to stretch until the cramps go away! I hate them! Guest guest
When I was in the hospital and had bad muscle cramps & twinges, after all kinds of meds, one of the Doc's put me on quinine. It worked really well. This is the same doc who calls my mineral water 'miracle water' I drink 2-3 liters a day and never have the low magnesium problems that others do who taks prograf. The quinine is another drug that sits in my pharmacy. It is in pill (prescription) form. Guest guest
> > Also may I post your message in our > Success Stories Folder? > > Bee > Hi Bee: Please feel free to post my message in your success folder. I hope to eventually have a report of complete healing at some point in the near future, but I realize that it takes some time to mop up the last of the candida and also complete the healing process. I've only been treating candida for just over a year with just 1 month on your program. As I am 45 and have had a poor diet most of my life, I expect complete recovery to take another year or two anyway. I believe it is very unfortunate that people are told by some naturopaths, etc., that candida can be cured in only 2 months because that causes them to give up. I also believe that anyone who has external signs of fungus of any type probably has too much on their insides as well and is sick in more ways than they realize because of it. I suppose you know this, but most people don't. This has been a most amazing journey for me... Thanks, Jan

Guest guest
Dor the last few weeks people have been offering suggestions on restless leg syndrome, and successful medication for them. I am not sure what the diference IS between muscle cramps and restless leg syndrome, but it would probly help you if you read the archives ( or even the " messages in this topic " at the end of the email ) and took all the names of the meds to your doctor. and have a serious discussion. I too had " Charley horse " type muscle cramps regularly when I was on HTCZ diuretic, and my potasium levels were compromised. A good dose of additional potasium usually helped. Now I am spirolectone(?) and I do not seem to be bothered so much but even now, sometimes, I have a beginning of the cramp, and I have to move it and excersize it. I have to see what my potasium levels are now, with the next blood test. And talk to the doctor. Guest guest
I already take Neurontin at 1200 mg. These things are simply killers. I can do pretty good until I am waken by them in the middle of the night. I can handle the ones in the legs and calves, but the ones on the inside of my thigh, those are the ones that do me in. When I finally make it out of bed, a sort of hobble around and walk them off......I don't know what else to do. Debby [ ] Muscle cramps I too have those muscle cramps, like a charle horse,in my legs, feet & hands I was given Neurotin - 400 mg (4 times a day ). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ No virus found in this incoming message.
