Guest guest
Hi Heidi, I looked both drugs up in my nursing drug book. Prednisone doesn't list anything that I can tell, but plaguenil says were sunglasses outside because it can cause photophobia. Like Kathe said, MTX is photosensitive which means it can react in the sun. I also agree that it might be from an allergic reaction to a new drug or food you might have started. Good luck! Guest guest
Good question. I think some of the med might be the cause. I hope can shed some light on the matter. She is so good at it. heidicase1976 <heidicase1976@...> wrote: Hi I have been tanning 2 days a week for a couple of weeks for about 10 minutes, yesterday AM I went tanning and started to itch badly. Thanks Heidi

Guest guest
Does your son have very light blue eyes by any chance? My nephew and niece with very light blue eyes both have this problem. We have to keep sunglasses on both of them. They do not have CMT.

Guest guest
My eye doctor said that most definitely CMT can cause sensitivity to sunlight. He recommended wearing sunglasses whenever going out in the sun. He said he's seen quite a few cases of it. For me it's just a sudden extra tiredness as soon as the light hits. According to him CMT can also cause weak eyelid and eye muscles.
Guest guest
There is scant research proven on ocular nerve involvement for CMT 1. Juvenille Glaucoma, Cataracts have been found in recessive mutations of CMT. In dominant Type 2, optic atrophy, ear and eye dysfunction. In recessive Type 2 there is also optic neuropathy. See this for mutations info http://neuromuscular.wustl.edu/time/hmsn.html Common sense would indicate that it is best to wear sunglasses while in the sun, as a burn is dangerous, for anyone, child or adult. I would suggest you have your son examined by a pediatric eye doctor to check this eye problem out. Gretchen

Guest guest
I was diagnosed with Nystagmus around age 10. Tho I had lots of symptoms over the years, I was not diagnosed with CMT1B until I was 64. I have never seen any connection between CMT and Nystagmus but it could be a possibility as my father's family has a history of both. Tho way back then they did not have names for them they had all the symptoms. Thanks for all the good info, Gretchen. June
