Guest guest
right, i see that but i don't understand it <g>. okay, now maybe i understand. the swiss water process uses *green* beans and *hot* water. i mistakenly had assumed it used roasted beans and cold water. so, apparently the hot water more fully extracts the caffeine from the beans. good deal although i'll probably stick with my fair trade organic french roast decaf. oliver... Guest guest
, yeah, I often make decaf or half decaf when I brew coffee. (And always fair-trade, shade-grown, organic, locally roasted by a roaster that delivers their beans to stores via bicycle. ) I usually have little need for caffeine and I have no desire to become dependent on it. But the taste and smell of good coffee is so incredible that I drink it several times a week. My favorite way to drink coffee is about 4 ounces of strong coffee and 8 ounces of half and half or cream. , if you buy the Toddy I'll be curious how you like it. The reviews did sound good to me but I figured I wouldn't make enough coffee to justify buying such a device. Currently I just have a bunch of coffee concentrate ice cubes in a bag in my freezer--very convenient. Tom
Guest guest
I didn't read your article, but thought that coffee contains niacin, considered a treatment for some heart attack patients. It also contains oils which are bad for the heart, like many other plant oils. I've heard that a paper filter, rather than a recyclable mesh one, can trap more of these unhealthy oils. Pulled that one way out of the memory fog, don't take it as gospel. Desh

I bought those coconut oil capsules (in a carob capsule) a while and was taking those to work as it was very convenient for me. But when I came to this site I found out that carob is not allowed so had to give them up. Guest guest
It's the caffein that is the problem. This is an issue that is often discussed here. You can do a search of archived messages at our group website for more details. Guest guest
Crystal I have atrial fibrillation. In order to stop the episodes one of the things I did was to eliminate all caffeine. That includes coffee, tea, decaf coffee and tea, and chocolate and cocoa. I do dring herbal teas which are caffeine free totally. It worked, the afib stopped and I'm off all of the medication they put me on for it. If the caffeine is affecting you, it's probably not a good idea to continue with it. By the way, I did it all instantly without trying to wean myself off, since I consider that torture. : ) Roni <>Just because something isn't seen doesn't mean it's not there<> From: Crystal <sweetnwright@...> Subject: Coffee hypothyroidism Date: Wednesday, April 15, 2009, 9:40 AM I seem to recall something about it it's not okay to drink coffee during the 1st couple of hours of taking meds. Did I dream that up? Please explain! As far as decaffeinated drinks, don't they use formaldehyde to decaffinate teas and coffees? To me that is worse than the caffeine! CW Oh and yes I would go cold turkey like I did cig's Traveling? Guest guest
And yet, caffeine can be some help when one has adrenal fatigue. If one isn't making enough cortisol, the body will use adrenalin as a replacement resulting in higher blood pressure or faster heart rate or even a more erratic heart rate or all of the above. Caffeine is to some degree a substitute for adrenalin, a substitute which has less negative effects than adrenalin. I know that when I used to take something with caffeine in it, my heart rate and blood pressure would go down. I discussed this with several doctors and they were clueless. When I self-diagnosed myself with adrenal fatigue after getting some cortisol tests (both saliva and blood) and started taking cortisol, my blood pressure and heart rate decreased. My guess is that my body stopped needing the adrenalin to compensate. I believe a possible sign of adrenal fatigue is that caffeine doesn't give one the pick-me-up effect that other people get or that one used to get. Caffeine also contributes to adrenal fatigue so taking it doesn't make adrenal fatigue any better in the long run. What is required is to give the adrenals a chance to recover and that requires cortisol replacement to normal levels. When I used to get PVCs regularly caffeine would paradoxically eliminate them or limit them to many fewer. However, one cannot be on caffeine 24x7. The oils we take should not cause weight gain.  I don't mind the diet at all as I feel great on it and know that it providing great nourishment for my body. " I know I maybe " The weight gain could also be what Bee said and that be retracing your former weight. I used to have an ice cream sunday when I was away from home on a trip. It tasted soooo good and then dropped me like a bad habit. I finally woke up and realized that if I can survive the rest of the time why consume it at all. Is a treat something we eat that we know is not nourishing to our bodies? Maybe we should name it junk. I can see my daughters grandmother handing some cookies to my daughter and saying " hi sweetie would you like some junk " . I have now come a long way from that place and now like the smell of the stuff and leave it at that. BTW my sense of smell has improved big time. When at get togethers I often pick up a plate of tasty food, (and I'm stretching using the word food) and smell it for fun and then place it back on the table. People think i'm weird and then they consume that which I have just smelled and I just stand there and smile. You will know when you are healed and when you are healed you won't want a stimulant like coffee because life is stimulating enough even if you are just sitting and thinking. I have had 1 sip of coffee in my 52 years and have studied the culture extensively as I have had staff, family, friends drink it and have done service work for a large coffee retailer and I have come to the conclusion it is expensive, messy, unnecessary and highly addictive. I think it burn us up even though we think it gives us energy. We use it to do the jobs we don't want to do because it gives us a pick up. Better to flow with your own energy. I have extended family members that can't even think what they would do without several cups in the morning. Addicts they are and i'm glad I have removed from them. I know, I know, you just want a latte occasionally not a weirdo's thoughts on the subject. Good job for coming as far as you have and continued success to you. I have actually gained 40 pounds since January- up to 10 pounds some weeks! YIKES! I know Bee tells us over and over not to worry about weight, but COME ON! I should also say that I am very strict with diet and work out more than anyone else I know. soo....I'm going in for some testing on tuesday.
