Guest guest
, Hi! Just an aditional thought - one of the things that I have found useful when choosing the "right" job is a personality assesment. Usually these tests are extremely expensive but there is a type of test (that I studied as part of my Org behaviour courses) called MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) that you can easily do online. Once you have the four letters, then you can read up on the back-ground material for your personality profile and see what type of work, environment, etc generally is a good fit. I have taken many different kinds of tests (OPQ-Occupational Personality Questionnaire, Management Drives, etc) but I have constantly been amazed at the accuracy of even the very simple versions of the MBTI test - like the link I will paste here. Try it. It's free. And there is a lot of information online once you have your profile (the 4 letters.) The link: http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html Scroll down to the the heading : Introduction to the Cognitive Style Inventory. There , once again, they remind you that using this test is no substitue for taking the official test - it has hundreds of questions and is therefore more accurate - but this should be sufficient to get close to what the official outcome will be. Where you see :" Choose best fit:" choose the side that fits you the best. It could be that you see a bit of yourself in both, but one side is always more dominant. Choose that one. When you're done then the letters should appear in the box below. Once you have them then go to the following links to get more insight and info: Good old Wikipedia : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myers-Briggs_Type_Indicator The MBTI site: http://www.myersbriggs.org/my-mbti-personality-type/mbti-basics/ There are more site - but you should be able to find useful information already from these two and the links at the bottom of the testpage. Look for reference to the Type and work or work environment. Also check out examples of famous persons with your personality type - see what kind of work they do and what makes them good at it. Good luck, Rochelle ........................................................................ 2a. Re: My job situation...... Posted by: "" msrpsilver@... nontradeducator Sun Aug 17, 2008 6:22 am (PDT) JZ.....I don't see this position fitting in with whom I am as a person. I'm just trying to make it on by until I have a new position. Am looking at my options at this point, and going back into the field of education. I do estimating work in the construction industry, and this position has nothing to do with making mankind a better place than it is now (except for protecting people in the event of a fire). I know for certain I would be better suited for another type of employment. I am only working in construction because I saw it as a temporary type of position in my life until I found what I was looking for.. I should have kept looking even after I took my current position. The good news is that there's a shortage of teachers and such, especially in the hard sciences (math, sciences, etc.).
