In today's lead story in the SAR: Taking The Kids:

Some Families Must Pack Extra Patience it says:

" Bell, executive vice president at the advocacy organization

Autism Speaks (www.autismspeaks.org), and parent of an autistic teen,

says some families don't go anywhere, not even out to dinner while

others, like his family, opt " not to let autism rule our lives. " Bell

adds that his family of five has successfully navigated national

parks, cross-country car trips, theme parks, ski resorts and Hawaii. "

Does it tick anyone else off that this guy makes enough money at AS to

take his family to all of those places? And probably with a helper or

2! I couldn't go to Hawaii with my family of 4 if I saved for the

rest of my life. I'm sure he doesn't spend his family's money on

biomed like I do, imagine what I could do if I let go of that expense!

I will NEVER take money from my family to give to HIS family EVER!

AS can kiss my you-know-what!

Hi,

I

stopped giving to Autism Speaks (I forget what it used to be called) after a

series of personal emails between myself and Bell. I wrote to them in

2005 after the Kennedy article. I wanted the organization to

put up a warning on its website regarding vaccinations. Not anything that

said we think that there is a connection, just something that would warn

parents that we don’t have enough information to say that the vaccines

are safe. After a couple of emails I asked him, knowing that he had an

autistic son. If he had it to do all over again would he still vaccinate his

son? I thought that it was just a hypothetical question. I was

floored when he wrote back that he had a daughter that he decided NOT to

vaccinate. I just thought it was very hypocrical of him. On the one

hand he doesn’t warn others, but he would not vaccinate.

Remember, Bell " was " a marketing person for Ritalin. I'm sure he

made good money doing so.
