I have had 2 tatal hip replacements and a thired hip replcement [revision hip

england baptist hospital in boston . the first 3 days after the surgery were

the roughest but i got excellent care and pain management. I had a lot of

problems with nausea and vomiting after surgery . let your anesthesilogist know

if

you have had nausea and problems after surgery from anesthesia. they will give

you something for the nausea and will order something for you in case it

occurs after surgery .after the first week you will improve a little everyday.if

you have any questions no matter what they are you can e-mail me at

Hi ,

I hope you feel better soon. During the summer of 1998, I had both double hip

& double knee replacement surgeries. Now, I can walk inside without any

assistance,

and I walk outside with only a cane. For your information, there is a good

book about

this subject entitled, " A Patient " s Guide to Knee and Hip Replacement. " It

was written by Irwin Silber in 1999. Take care and hope for the best.

Sincerely,

Reid age 61 in Washington DC

Hi,

Just had two hip replacements. I needed them at 41 but waited until i could no

longer walk.

In retrospect that was not a good idea. It's better to just have them done and

move on with

your life. There is a group here called surfacehippy. Check it out or email me

privately if you

have any questions.

My sister-in-law had her 2nd hip replacement nearly 2 yrs ago. The

first one lasted 6 yrs (my hubby thinks- not sure) She is preparing

herself for a new career for when this one quits. But the first one

really did a great deal of good. She is a service deli manager at the

grocery store and it helped her tremendously.

I lost my hip to PA. I was only 29! I was so miserable before the surgery. The

surgery has been such a blessing in my life! Now I am 31 and pregnant with my

4th child and doing great with the hip!

I also had a ceramic right hip replacement in June of 2006. I have

not regretted it at all. Even immediately post-op in the recovery room

after the procedure, they kept asking me if I was in pain or needed

pain medication, and I told them, " Oh my gosh, no, I already feel SO

MUCH BETTER than before the hip replacement. " I was in so much pain

from my hip pre-op that the post-op pain was NOTHING. I had absolutely

no problems of any kind: no infections, no bleeding, no clots. I did

my PT faithfully, and within 28 days was back working full-time at my

office nurse position. I had the surgery on Tuesday. They had me

sitting up on the side of the bed dangling my feet that night. The

next day I began PT and was instructed on a walker to get to the

bathroom and move around the hospital room and floor. The following

day, I had done so well with the walker that they instructed me on

crutches instead. The following morning I was discharged home with a

home health nurse who came three times a week to check my PT/PTT

(blood clotting) levels since I had to be on Coumadin (a blood

thinner to prevent clots) for 2 weeks post-op. The home health nurse

also changed my incision dressing when she was there, and instructed

me and my husband on how to change it on the days she didn't come.

The physical therapist came to the house three times a week while the

home health nurse came out as well; within a week I had progressed

from using crutches back to using the cane I had used preop, and

within a week after that, I was walking unassisted. Once the home

health nurse removed my staples and stopped coming to the house

(which was about 10-14 days post-op) the home PT was changed to

outpatient PT for another month or so post-op. (My ds drove me to and

from the outpatient PT appointment for a couple of weeks, until I had

my 1 month post-op check and was cleared to drive.) The outpatient PT

continued for about a couple of weeks after my return to work, so I

would go early in the morning and then go to work after. I was on

Enbrel and Methotrexate and Naproxen; I had to stop the Methotrexate

and Enbrel about 3-4 weeks pre-op, and the Naproxen 10-14 days preop

and restarted all the meds about 2-3 weeks post-op. My surgery was the

old type with the long incision, as my respiratory issues (allergies

and severe asthma) prevented me from being a candidate to be under

anesthesia as long as the new microscopic/lap type incisions for hip

replacements require.

Good luck with your surgery.

Drei,

Thanks for the note.

I hope everything goes as smoothly for me as it did for you.

I am looking forward to getting my hip fixed and your description of

how things when is very helpful.

I wish you continued good health in the future.

Best,

DC

Hi Deborah,

Wishing you the best tomorrow.  Hope all goes smoothly and you walk out in less

pain than you walked in.  Let us know how you're doing once you're able to get

back online.

Sending positive thoughts your way...

Hi Rusty,

I am glad the new hip is doing good but sad the other one is causing

you problems. We send our love to you young man :-). Since you was in TN You

should have slid on down alittle farther south to see us lololol.

We will one day see each other. Maybe cut a rug also lolol. :-). As my

Niece calls it shake alittle bootie lololol. Keep up getting around best you

can. is having some issues with Arthur and skin issues again. She

went to florida with my family and has had some lingering issues since. Kinda

odd that the skin issues have started back so we are trying to keep the

infection down again before it gets worse.

Instead of the staph on her behind it is on her feet. Doing the same as

a few years ago when the behind acted up. Skin just pops open. But we will

handle it and she will always make it through. Since Mom passed with the

MRSA issue we are always trying to keep this issue away.

SUMMER is around the corner now so we can shed some clothes lolol. When

was in Florida she ended up with a sun burn on the back of her

legs and we do not know how she did it lolol as she did not lay out in the

sun. I told her maybe the boys were looking to hard lololololol. She is keeping

up her music and singing. Will send you a picture of her as she is now 23

WOW I am getting older lolololol.

Keep in touch Rusty as you are so special to us and so many here.

Robbin
