Special Guest Co-Host Kerrylyn Boettcher - Mrs. New York America 2008, Chelsea Brumagen - Miss Teen-Ager of New York 2008 and Shana Jaycox - Mrs. New York America 2007 along with the Golden Benefit Committee will be hosting the Mark Farruggia 12th Annual Golden Benefit Charity Golf Classic and Dinner, Pride of NY Wine and Cheese Tasting on July 18, 2009 for the Neuromuscular Disease Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center & Friends & Families of Muscular Disorders Foundation at Lima Country Club, Lima, New York. Mark Farrugia started the Golden Benefit Charity Golf Classic because he had his life altered by Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease and felt there needed to be more awareness about CMT. Founders Mark Farruggia,Retsof, New York, Kay Zagorski, Sloan New York and Dan Starr, Rochester New York formed the non - profit " Friends and Families of Muscular Disorders Foundation " in honor of those who have a neuromuscular disorder by raising funds and awareness through unique charitable events and activities it sponsors. To grant and award money to medical and educational intuitions for new programs to help people with Diseases of Peripheral Nerve, Charcot Marie-Tooth Disease, Mitochondrial Myopathies, Adult Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Inclusion Body Myositis, Myasthenia Gravis, Motor Neuron Diseases, Muscular Dystrophies, Neuromuscular Junction Diseases, Lupus, Arthritis, Parkinson's disease and Cerebral Palsy, Fibromyalgia, Multiple Sclerosis, Hereditary Neuropathy and to help other groups and individuals who may need a helping hand in a need of financial difficulties. By providing these funds the foundation hopes to enhance and enrich the lives of those with diseases of neuromuscular disorders and hereditary neuropathies. The Neuromuscular Disease Center at the University of Rochester Medical Center offers state-of-the-art comprehensive care to over 4,500 patients affected by neuropathy, ALS, muscular dystrophy, myasthenia gravis, and other neuromusclar disorders. The Center strives to provide patients and their families with the tools, resources, and emotional support they need to understand and meet the challenges of their diseases so they can live their lives to the fullest. Physicians and scientists at the Center are actively involved in research to uncover the mysteries of these neuromuscular disorders and to develop new treatments.
