Two years as a governor is still longer then 143 days as a senator.

I think that it is. I also wonder what implications this will have for drilling

in ANWR, if

there's a motive there.

According to wikipedia, and other articles, the " investigation " of

her is a little different than described. Some Republicans have been

our strongest allies. Sheila

Oh come on people. She just got picked. Why are you so quick to judge

her. I found her speech very uplifting compared to the other ones I've

heard. Yes she does have a baby w/ Downs Syndrome. Yes he is only 2

months old. But what better speaker for children w/ disabilities than a

Mom who is actually living with it. Let's all cut the crap in this

election with the Dems and Repubs. Let's do the right thing this time.

Finally the voice of a woman and especially a Mom to 5 children. Let's

just give her a chance. How can you judge someone before you know what

they stand for. I for one will be listening intentley for answers to my

questions. And NO I won't be listening to the Dems who will be wanting

to smear her. It's the good ole boys time to move over and let a womans

opinions be voiced.

I'm also glad she is against abortion. We are all trying to save the

lives of our Autistic children and give them hope. How can we want hope

for some children and death for others. Also she mentioned that her Son

joined the army last year and will be deployed to Iraq on Sept. 11.

Tell me she doesn't want this war to end. PLEASE JUST GIVE HER A CHANCE

TO GET HER VIEWS ACROSS. Use our brains and don't be swayed by any of

these media people. We all have until Nov. 4 to make an educated

decision. Read, Read, Read unstead of listening to the media.

This from the NY Times:

" She is known to religious conservatives for choosing not to have an

abortion after learning that she was carrying a child with Down

syndrome. " It is almost impossible to exaggerate how important that is

to the conservative faith community, " said Ralph , the former head

of the Christian Coalition. She gave birth to her son, Trig, in April. "

If Palin chooses to do be an advocate for disabled children, and there

is no information out there yet to so indicate she would or wouldn't,

she would have the moral credentials that few could top by her

choosing not to abort her DS son.

This is a whole new race today, IMO, and I am left feeling right now

that either way it turns out, it could be good for the autism community.

I agree she may be good for the ASD community and for the

advancement of women in general[its about time ladies!]however I do

not think religous reasons alone are most folks sole reason not to

abort a nontyp.child .... to most women It is still her child and

most of us couldnt " get rid of " our child no matter what.

We were offered amnio if we wanted to " screen for anomalies " so that

we could chose to abort, as it was put to us. I said no thankyou. I

do not need to have that info. It is useless info as I wouldnt abort

anyway. None of my children would ever be despensable in my eyes.In

Just curious, was your doctor upset when you wouldn't do amnio? Mine

was furious. I was 37, having my first (and it turns out only child).

My husband and I told her we were weren't going to abort on their

flimsy tests no matter what, so why do the test. We had a friend,

told her baby had downs, kept the baby, and the baby was born

perfectly normal! She was miserable her entire pregnancy.

I think it is shallow to beleive that is McCain's reason for chosing her. Having met him on several occasions, he always impressed me as someone who cares deeply about his country and desires true change for the better!

Look at what she has done in a very short time for her state! Perhaps that had something to do with his decission?!?

I agree!! Let's get it right this time and stop trying to make things into something they aren't. Let's trying being open-minded and truly listening without bias for a change. Entirely too much is at stake here!

BTW, she knew about her son's Downs before he was born and chose not to kill him. Willing to take on the challenge!

And yes, we all want an end to the war. A responsible, safe (as possible) end to this war.

Did Biden when he made his VP nomination speech? Or is this bias?

"One last thing- my son wants Obama too. We¹ve been watching all thecoverage together."

It's wonderful you both follow the election closely.

My son is for McCain and he addressed them both in person. McCain gave him his time and compassion. Obama did not. Later, McCain was true to his word and actually did something. Obama did not. He did mention what a great organization Autism Speaks is though. He just mentioned that same thing to to Coy Barefoot the other day when asked about autism. I guess we know who AS's candidaate of choice is.

Since Ron was forced out of the race by the media darlings, I was

afraid that we would never see a Candidate (Prez or VP) who is not

afraid to take on crooks and bullies in powerful positions. It'll be

interesting to see if Gov. Palin will stand up to the likes of Big

Pharma.

I was relieved when I heard that Mitt Romney was not the Vice

Presidential Candidate. I'll never forget that first debate when

McCain was talking about Big Pharma. Mitt Romney was quick to defend

them saying that the pharmaceutical companies aren't " evil " . McCain

shot back saying something like Oh yes, they are! He certainly got MY

attention that night!

I think that McCain's choice of a running mate was a good one! We

certainly have an interesting 2 months ahead of us!

One way or another, I have never been so motivated to follow a

Presidential race!!!!

We did not have it either. I was 36 and my first child and only as well. Our doctor very much respected out choice.

I find it a little surprising how some are so quick to go for the

throat without knowing much about her (or her mothering habits).

Perhaps the kids are bonded with dad. Why isn't anyone scratching his

eyes out? I found Kim Stagliano's Huffington piece particularly catty

and partisan, too. Palin may end up being a strong advocate for our

community, like as in staunch conservative Dan Burton. Or maybe not.

Time will tell and there is no need to rush to the negative, is there?

Shame on you Kim, retract those nails. . .

Lenny

reading all of today's EOHarm postings yet), but what struck me ODD

about Sara Palin was reading today (tho' I can't recall

exactly where), that she went back to work a mere 3 DAYS after Trig

was born!! How can you hope to " bond " with your kid, if you leave them

that early? That does not auger well for doing right by kids with

disabilities.

I had to return to work within a couple of weeks of our son coming home from the hospital. Perhaps some would argue that is why he acquired autism?

It could simply be that she had already fallen in love with him.

I'm sure her being Jewish had something to do with it.

I see your point but I don't think that MOST adult women would abort a downs baby, I do know a few that probably would but...

I myself am a rather liberal, pro-choice mother of 3. Four months into my pregnancy with my twins, the second ultrasound indicated a high likelihood of Downs on my baby boy. They tried to refer me for an amnio and I refused on the basis that it wouldn't change the outcome and the risk to my bab(ies) was not worth doing it. So I read myself into a coma on that extra chromosome (hey, rather like i'm doing now that he's ASD along with big brother!) and gave birth to a healthy unaffected baby....until vaccines that is...

I'm pretty damned jaded about a lot of things but I don't think her position necessarily had a part to play. As for going back to work 3 days after birth - who knows what that means? A few emails on issues of importance and more work for her staff I hope. After all, she is governor, not a light undertaking.

I'm voting for Obama by the way. I just don't really want to see any woman bashed at least before we know more about her. Hey - worse case scenario for me is that if Obama doesn't win the election - the mother of a disabled child hopefully will do more for us than any of the other options I saw. Pretty sad that I just hope for what I can get aye? The last 8 years have been very hard on me - for one.
