I know what you mean. Ray heard the word from his sophomore in high

school teacher too. That is why I wrote the blog post about the R word the

other day. It is disgusting that it should come from someone your child

respects.

Yes! loves this teacher. I asked him if he said anything and he said " no,

I just had to make sure I heard him correctly, I was so shocked. " I know he's

lost respect for this teacher now and will look at him differently. When he

hears kids in his class say it he always says " Do you know what that means? "

Then he tells them and lets them know he has a little brother who is MR - that

usually shuts them up!

I better live a looooooong time because I have so many things on my " to do " list

and so little time. One of these things being - getting people to stop using

words like this so freely without thinking of what your audience is actually

hearing.

I am so upset that someone, a TEACHER, would use the R word. I am just

really disturbed by it.

The impact of it is long range. The teacher who told Ray's class

they were all retarded was the sophomore in high school teacher. Ray

is 23 next month and still talks of it.

Hi Jayne,

I think that teacher is very disrespectful. I would have written her a note

telling her just that and made an effort to inform the school district to send

her to a disability awareness training.

Christschool has attacked both me, my son and other parents of ASD kids who have posted videos on you tube. I would not call him a "talented video maker" but a parent full of hate who has no problem attacking people who don't think like him. Sent via BlackBerry by AT&TDate: Wed, 13 Aug 2008 19:35:33 -0000To: <EOHarm >Subject: The "R" word The Autistic Self-Advocacy Network (ASAN) is pleased to announce the release of a new Public Service Announcement regarding the R-word and why it is such hateful speech. This commercial was produced by Christschool, a talented video maker who is both an autistic self-advocate and a father of an autistic son, and features a professional voice actor. We are working on getting this video out to as many people as possible, and would love it if other members of the coalition would do the same by posting it on their websites, encouraging members to e-mail it to others, etc. The video can be found here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzgQ3LVNhps ----------- This effort is largely misspent. It is not about the " R " word, it's about the hurtful attitude behind it. Going after 'bad' words obscures the source of the problem and therefore fails to resolve it. Such is the nature of political correctness efforts; largely cosmetic. Lenny
