Guest guest
The VP only gets to have any power to do anything -- Unless the Presd gives them power. I noticed the lie about the Bridge to nowhere - Palin said she turned the money down, but in 2006 she took the money. Someone who wrote her speech wasn't up on the facts of what she has done. Guest guest
AND the way Hillary mentioned autism was "she met a mom with two kids with autism who had no health care..." meanwhile Hillary is a big proponet of mandatory vaccines. Guest guest
Isn't it funny that when Hillary mentioned the " A " word - many of you were beside yourself with joy touting her greatness as if she was the next Messiah despite the FACT that she has done more to HARM our children and our cause than most anyone else on the Hill. Yet, when Palin, a mother of special needs child, speaks directly to those of us who daily bear the responsibilities and challenges of a special needs child - you call it pandering. What a bunch of damn hypocrits! A closed mind with an open mouth is not going to help our children...it merely drives a bigger wedge in our community. We can't win this war (justice, truth and quality of life for our children) if we don't stop these destructive and unproductive patterns. I, along with my late husband, Alan (a physician) personally met with Senator Clinton's staff. That was just one of numerous meetings with her staff that I attended (usually with Bobbie Manning and on occasion Bob Krakow would join us). We might as well have been trying to empty the ocean with a teaspoon for all the good it did. Hillary, during her husband's administration, was PART of the problem pushing to fund and expand vaccinations without proper safety oversight. I don't care how many times she utters the " A " word now or in the future - she will not admit or attempt to rectify a problem that SHE helped create. I am not blindly supportive of all Republicans or rabidly opposed to all Democrats...hell, I probably donated to, campaigned and voted for more Democrats last election than most Democrats. I have advocated just as passionately and assisted any elected official REGARDLESS of their political affiliation but in the end, as many of you know, I ALWAYS call a spade a spade. It is difficult to fathom anyone on this board more disappointed in the Bush Administration that me...I voted for the bastard the first time around (before my son was vaccine-injured and I learned of Bush's corruption and culpability in this issue) but not in the second time. I support and respect the Office of the President but I do NOT support or respect the man who currently holds that office. I will support and applaud anyone (regardless of political affiliation or in the case of our community... " group " affiliation) that will assist our children and I will hold accountable those who hinder this mission (regardless of their politics or organizational affiliation). I will give the unknown the benefit of doubt, just as I did with Hillary Clinton, but I won't continue to sing their praise once they have shown their true colors. Hockey Moms are not the only ones that can be pit bulls with lipstick...this adage could certainly apply to me ss a Mercury Mom (just ask Bernier of the CDC...he still cringes everytime he sees me at a meeting knowing that I will hold him accountable for his lies and deceit and usually on the record and in front of the press). Gov. Palin states that she will be an advocate and voice for our children in the White House...I say let's reach out to her and hold her to that promise. She may or may not end up in the White House but she IS Governor of Alaska so let's see what she can do on her own turf...if not nationwide. If she fails, then any criticism she receives she earned. By the way, what exactly HAS Senator Obama DONE to assist our children? Did he personally take a meeting with ANYONE on this board or in our community specifically about THIS issue?? Has he PUBLICALLY spoken out with concerns and doubts about the safety of Thimerosal? If so, I am not aware of it. This community has friends on the Hill (and in State Legislatures) from both parties but we have more enemies or even worse...those who claim to care but do nothing even when they have the power to do so. THAT is what we should be discussing AS A COMMUNITY...regardless of their politics! Forget " red " state or " blue " state...let's blend 'em, paint the country purple and SOLVE this issue - END this fight. Maybe that should be our new ribbon because it is going to take BOTH " red " and " blue " to make this happen. Guest guest
Lin, I hope you don't really mean that. That scares me more then anything else when one of us stops advocating. I changed my political party before the primaries because of all McCain has done for us, but I do have fear of 4 more years of the same, and especially four more years of this CDC's politics as usual. I hope what ever ear you have in McCain's group has an ear to and that she hears the words do not vaccinate and she takes them. Even thought I know a DS kid with Autism next door to the white house will make huge news. I am still with , I do not want anyone else in this club. Please Lin don't give up the faith. Guest guest
She left us all wondering what she would advocate for. Is it mandatory vaccines? Is it education? (With two parents as teachers I kinda doubt it is the kind of advocacy that I'd like to see... not that I had a bad experience or anything...) I did not get the impression that she was an environmentalist at all so I can't quite see her as believing in an environmental trigger for autism. I don't think I learned anything about her that wasn't in her Wiki bio tonight except that she can deliver well written one liners to bash the other side. (I'm not sure how many of those one liners hold water but would involve research and analysis beyond the scope of my post.) I also wonder what disability her nephew has. How many sisters does she have because that could not have been the trooper brother in law they had at the party and on TV. Could it? Guest guest
I love purple and the analogy.. All the things you speak of cross my mind daily. Thanks for your input. I am still torn in this and love hearing all the sides, especially those who have met with the candidates we are discussing. I do believe the bottom line goal of each party is to divide and conquer, whether that be with us as women or us with children with disabilities. Our government wants to make sure we are all never on the same page. I am not sure how to fix that, but it is something we all need to look inward for the answer. Will we let them continue on this business as usual or will we buck the system? Primer who lives in Oceanside but is in Carlsbad Unified School District ~All truth passes through three stages. Perhaps it would have been better to say that I was appalled at the hypocrisy being exhibited on the board lately. But, you know me...I calls 'em as I sees 'em. Guest guest
Lugene, Thank you for your well written, well thought out post. As a strong, female Political figure, I like Hillary. But I would never have voted for her BECAUSE of her marraige to the vaccine industry. I have followed her mission to expand funding to ensure that every American child is fully immunized, from the very beginning. Never was she concerned about proper safety oversight, nor have I read or heard anywhere, in spite of the mounting evidence that vaccines can and do cause injuries, that she has changed her position on this. This is one time when I would applaud a " flip flop " on an issue! Now, we may possibly see a friend and advocate in the Whitehouse who will listen to our voices. God knows that our concerns have fallen on deaf ears in both the Cliton and the Bush Administrations. McCain is the only person to have acknowledged the possibility of vaccine related illnesses during the debates. He was also the only one to acknowledge that the Pharmaceutical companies have too much influence over our Government. Now with a running mate who is faced with the challenges of raising a child with disabilities, we have a tremendous opportunity to be heard and taken seriously. But Palin is a REPUBLICAN WOMAN! God help her... with such a stigma, it seems that she can do nothing right!!! Let's crucify her before we question her... I'm sorry. I know that there are other issues besides vaccines, autism and abortion that we need to focus on. But I have a grandchild whose life was negatively impacted by vaccines, and he is living under a flawed system that is bucking against him. As far as I'm concerned, either Candidate can address the economy or Homeland Security and likely do a decent job. But I am consumed with issues involving people living with disabilities, the autism epidemic and the vaccine debate. I am throwing my support where I feel I will be heard... I will continue to scrutinize both tickets and I am open to voting for whichever Candidate will best serve children like my grandson. We have a full month to find out just what McCain and Palin can do to contribute to our children's safety and well being. Lets take the time to write letters, to present questions, to get a feel for what he and she has to offer in the way of true advocacy. Let's do the same with Obama and Biden. In the end, our votes should go to whoever we feel will put forth the best effort to advocate for our children. Lets give Palin a fighting chance by listening to what she has to say on issues involving advocacy and vaccine safety. -Trish > > > > > > Palin just made the comment " to all the parents and families with > > special needs children, you will now have an advocate and a voice in > > the white house...
