I had forwarded your previous post regarding Hillary Clinton's utterance of the word "autism" to family and friends....because your comments seemed to "come from your heart" and were worth noting.

But, since you asked.....your comments in today's post were no more noteworthy than those of any "partisan hack" who is disappointed that her obvious "politician of choice"... Hillary Clinton.... is no longer a factor in the upcoming election.

Disappointment does not begin to explain "what I think" about today's post.

Sorry, but, you asked......

With all due respect, I choose not to engage in the "partisan" political discussions that have broken out on EOH because I see no benefit gained from the division they cause within our ranks.

However, I was asked "what do you think" about the comments of Ms. Fischkin ...and I was disappointed in that I found them highly "partisan".

For that, I make no apologies.

Bob,I am not a Hillary Clinton fan or supporter, but I think she remains very much a factor in the upcoming election.Right now she and her past statements are being used as a tool by the McCain campaign against Obama and it is unclear which side will benefit from the Hillary factor. While I understand your comment I always find Barbara's essays and commentary noteworthy (I have the same positive view of your insightful comments, too), even when I disagree. A friend from AK sent this- I wonder if the Media will see if this

is true or not. If it is -- I wonder why Palin is Parading 3 of her

kids thru all this -

" Tracker was petty theft and a vandal. He destroyed with 3 other boys

school busses that closed the school for 2 days. He was offered jail

time or join the military. That will come out also. So you won't be

surprised. "

This would have been a great opportunity to hear Palin's views on

Healthcare. She has a special needs child, and a pregnant daughter

without insurance of her own. I've only heard a few clips of McCain's

healthcare position. Some sort of cost control will somehow make

things better?! (for patients or doctors or insurance industry

profits?) Maybe the hockey mom can get McCain to put a little more

meat on that bone, instead of throwing meat to the Republican

convention floor.

Bob,I am in complete agreement with your point that partisanship can produce divisiveness - the partisanship can distract us from a focus on our children and grandchildren. I don't see a serious problem, however, if anyone want to express their partisan views. It is much more helpful that the partisanship is articulated in thoughtful way rather than engaging in mudslinging. After all, at some point we need to choose a candidate unless we opt for sitting this one out - a poor option. My understanding is that this list was established to provide a forum for political discussion. If the discussion is less than principled and sometimes is mis-focused on extraneous issues is a less than desirable byproduct of the discussion, but thoughtful partisanship can often add to the discussion. I also have no problem with your response to Barbara's brief piece. I am merely adding my comment about your comment. I agree that you have nothing to apologize for nor did I suggest that an apology was called for.BobBob Krakow writes: There are almost no comments on a Presidential election that cannot be perceived or characterized as "partisan."-----------------------------------------------------------With all due respect, I choose not to engage in the "partisan" political discussions that have broken out on EOH because I see no benefit gained from the division they cause within our ranks. I say this not as a partisan but I heard little from Palin on healthcare, the economy or any domestic issues of importance. Her address to the Republican convention left those difficult issues out. In that regard I seriously disagree with the pundits who claim her speech was so brilliant. The speech was successful in establishing Palin's presence and identity. Her main point was about national security. This would have been a great opportunity to hear Palin's views on Healthcare. I'm pretty sick of the special needs moms can't possibly be VP arguement too. What a bunch of hypoctites! Talk about being exclusive, as so many Dems calim the Repubs are. Yes. please, by all means lets exclude ALL the moms of disabled children from running anything in our country. Opps...I guess that would have to include the moms who run autism orgs and lobby Congress. Damn! We're headed for a world of hurt now!!

Thanks to all. First for fixing my link. I posted very late at night,

worrying that by today this would become old news. Ah but it hasn't.

Palin seems to have touched very strong chords, good and bad. My mail

this morning has been very emotional. People either love her or hate

her. It's an idea I hope to explore more when not faced with such an

obvious deadline. I reiterate that I thank you all. I would not want

to live in a world where people who disagreed with me did not tell me.

Lin,I regard this issue as irrelevant one way or another. It is almost impossible to judge whether she can fulfill her obligations because of her status as a mother of five kids or because she has an infant with a disability. All signs are that these would not be obstacle to her functioning, but that leaves the more important questions open. The question is not what positions she might take because of inferences we draw about who Palin is - but what is her track record? We need that kind of information, not this "Point-Counterpoint" mudslingling unproductive debate.Does she have one? I read that she cut funding for Sp Ed services. We should explore this and then draw conclusions - or better, get the candidate to clarify her position. Would she continue the Bush administration's policy of failing to fund IDEA? What is her position on policy issues like this. It does not matter to me whether or not she has a child with Down's syndrome. What matters is her policy positions and whether we can influence her.BobWell said!! I'm pretty sick of the special needs moms can't possibly be VP arguement too. What a bunch of hypoctites! Lenny,I don't see the need for disciplinary action. I think instead we need to steer the discussion in the right direction. It is natural for individuals to be passionate about these matters and thereby lose focus, but once more reasonable voices come forward and place the focus where it should be, then the situation will right itself.Disciplinary action also has the undesirable effect of muting the list and that result would be worse than suffering a little mudslinging type of inflammatory comments. I might feel differently if some of the comments were truly outrageous but they were not.BobHello Lin,Perhaps I was not clear enough in my post about warning against namecalling against fellow list members. If you don't like the way this list is hosted, then you are welcome to

leave. You may not complain about it here, however.

Lenny

Bob,

I have getting plenty of private complaints about the demeanor and

tone of many of the messages posted to this list. The abusers come

from both political camps. At this point, I would rather have the

list become more muted than see it continue to degenerate further into

partisan verbal food fights.

Passionate discourse is ok, but calling fellow list members damned

hypocrites and the like, is not. Any expressions of contempt towards

one another is not. My patience is beginning to wear thin.
